The results of fitting a Forge DV

I fitted my new Forge 007P DV at the weekend, in the vein hope of trying to cure the 'limp mode' power loss problems I've been having. It occasionally kicked up error codes and went into limp mode, and when I checked with VAG-COM it seemed to point to the DV.

Well, ordered a 007P and it arrived on Sat. Got around to fitting it Sunday (my god are those one-use clips annoying!!!) and I have to say the car feels superb! :D

I don't know if this is just coincidence though, so can somebody tell me if this is likely to be down to a new DV?

The car now pulls more evenly, whereas before it would surge straight away and then the boost would die down and pull normally. Now it's smooth and even all the way.
Changing down a gear is smoother and causes less jolting (if that's the right word...)
Turbo whistle seems louder.
Car is now generally more consistent to drive and seems smoother, with power coming in slightly earlier.

Does that all sound like changes the DV could have made?

Changing down the gears the car may well feel slightly better as the DV is faster acting than the Bosch unit.

If you had a dodgy dump valve your car is going to feel great now but whether it is responsible for all those good things :shrug: time will tell.

I had a dodgy dump valve in my car and it felt like the car had a massive hesitation, although it didn't go into limp mode it felt like very slow (like a non-turbo 20V)

That's how my car felt when it lost power, like a non-turbo version of the same car. It would pull evenly and had a bit of pace about it, but just like you would expect from a non-turbo 20v. Very odd.

I changed my DV to a GReddy unit when the car was nearly new, the difference was like day and night. Power delivery was absolutely transformed. IMO changing the DV whether you use a forge unit or other brand is absolutely essential. The best mod ever.

Might have to get one of these. Seem to be relativey easy to fit yourself, not too expensive and an excellent "pre-mod" to a remap.

Fitting was easy, the hardest part was removing the clip from the one of the larger pipes. It really was a nightmare to get off, but with persistence, ignorance and a strong pair of pliers, it came off [B)]

Once that was off, it was a case of undoing the jubilee clip from the other large hose, pulling off the top hose and then putting jubilee clips on the hoses and putting the hoses onto the Forge DV in exactly the same way as they came off.

All in all it took around 45 minutes, with 30 of that being spent on removing the damn clip :lol:

Ruddmeister - Both those mods you mention are on my shopping list ;)

For similar money the dog bone engine mount and shortshifter run it close as the best mod ;)

Really? the engine mount is that good?

I already have the short shifter - it did, and still does put a huge smile on my face everytime I shift. I had to have it after I test-drove a Subaru Impreza.

Anyway the engine mount is on the way now from EIP. I ordered it this morning so it should have it by friday.

I noticed better boost pick up througout gears when I fitted a Bailey DV30 to my Ibiza Cupra.

Best mod to get started - then the others mods just keep rolling......

I fit my Forge DV the other night in my garage. I agree with you, that one time clip on the big hose was a nightmare to get off. Finally got it off though.
I can't agree with you on the time it took though, mine took 2 hours to fit coz I dropped the big jubilee clip down between the engine and gearbox.
It fell right onto the under panel and could I reach it ? NOT A GOD DAMN CHANCE !!!
Could I fit under the car to take the panel off ? NOT A GOD DAMN CHANCE !!!
Could I fit my jack under the car ? NOT A GOD DAMN CHANCE !!!

I had to get my 6 year old son to squeeze under the car as much as he could and reach into the small holes in the under panel with my magnetic screwdriver and he eventually fished it out ! Poor lad was knackered because it was reaching midnight.

The moral of this story is DON'T BE SO GOD DAMN CLUMSY !!!! :doh:

Or loop the jubilee clip around before you go near the car and then over the tube/hose its suppost to secure. But saying that I have about 3 pieces of my socket set in the engine bay somewhere.

In my opinion yes, the TCS works less hard (under acceleration) noticed this in the wet particularly and the whole car just feels more 'connected'. I know thats not a very good description but it's difficult to describe, i'm sure you also get less front end lift under acceleration.

Make sure you torque the bolts correctly.

Is it worth buying the complete, £100 Dogbone mount, or will the replacement poly bits give similar results?

Replacement polys will give the same results (I have them on mine) but will obviously take longer to fit - unless you can borrow someone's old standard dogbone mount, put the powerflex bushes in that. Then you can swap the whole thing. That way the car's in the air for much less time.

Might be quicker to get hold of then rather than the EIP one judging by that other thread.

I felt that it improved the turn in and sweetened up the gear change a bit as well. I did notice a bit more vibration at idle, but only really when the air-con/fans kick in.

Sat at idle with the Poly bushes fitted apparently they can give vibration back through the steering wheel, the EIP version had less virbration apparently.

I had the EIP version and vitually no virbration.

Then again over torquing the bolts could be a factor in this

I have to say I doubt the EIP one is less better or more good ;) in the vibration stakes, on mine it was hardly noticeable really.

Has to be mentioend though - the dogbone mount is there to take vibration out, stiffen up the bushes and you WILL get more vibration.

Like richybigman says, increase the revs and it dies - I've read of a lot of mkiv golf peeps increasing the idle a little (vag-com, lemmiwinks).

How long, on average, would it take to just fit the bushes into the standard mount? Is it a hard job?
