1 i posted a thread a week ago about noisy tappets.
when replacing these badboys is it just a simple case of whacking the old ones out and in with the new? or will the car need tuning etc afterwards??

2 I have developed a sort of whining squeaky noise down to the left hand side (looking from the front) of the engine near the cam belt region. does this mean a cambelt change is required? any ideas of what the squeaky noise could be?

Cheers in advance

i spray my belt with lube, sorts it out for about 2mins:D its a constant sqeaky, but not too loud, am going to change the alternator belt and power steering belt.

as long as you keep the engine timed up then there is no tuning involed in changing tappets :).. did u try an oil change first?

Is that a good idea....? When i had the same problem on my 206 my mechanic told me to get abit of black board chalk and hold it on the belt while the belt was moving, (be carful of your fingers) and get a good coat on the belt it stops it from slipping worked fine for me... and it lasts a while too unless it rains and wash`s it off!

when a belt squeakes its because its become brittle with age, it starts to lose the grip, so chalk will replace this. spraying with lube ( just a little ) will just eliminate the noise... too much lube and the alternator light comes on the dash as it loses all grip..

obviously the best thing to do is by a new belt for a few quid and 10mins of your time lol!
