Im after some information from people who have either extensively researched turbo upgrades...or had one.

What kits do you have on your car, what results..and roughly how much and are there any plus or negative points to your conversion.

Hope this doesnt come accross as to intrusive.

Just im after a turbo upgrade, as its pretty much the only way left for real power now.

Its just hard to decide between all the different kits. Idealy id be looking to attain about 280-290 bhp.

So..information and results welcome.

:)

lc with ihi vf24

living with it. negative. car needs to warm up before driving away due to an issue with the cold start up map. always done it but ihi has made it worse. car can suddenly rev itself:-o by 400 revs until they settle at the usual 800.
no fault of ihi tho

positive.:D
it took a good 6 weeks to settle in, it got better and better.power comes in at 3k revs. its there until 7k where its limited. the power dosnt drop off. if theres any greater lag ive not noticed it... or gotten used to it. its very much a drivers car. its noisy when givin it some and torque steer is somthing you learn to expect. nice pops from zorst.

the speed is incredible. you cant flatten your foot until in 3rd and then its touch and go. once above 3k the powers instant and full on. no probs with reliability so far.

its a bit more power than you wanted but thought it useful.

I just fancy more power..i was tempted to get it naturally..Ported, polished, flowed cylinder head, cams, lighter flywheel, custom ss pipework..then a jabba remap.

But tbh, a turbo upgrade is more cost effective.

Tbh mate..id be confident of seeing around 265 bhp maybe a touch more or less with this kind of setup. It would be a different experience to the normal turbo upgrades aswell.

Id always prefer to get more out of a car without just forcing more boost down her. Id say you'd be gaining around 12bhp from cams..and it would rev more, giving a longer spread of power...around another 15 bhp from a fully worked head. around 3-4 bhp from having solid stainless steel pipework with rubber joiners instead of samco type hoses...and jabba apparently work wonders with remaps. Iv hear of people having 8 + bhp over revo setups due to it being custom.

Regardless of results..im tempted to go this route tbh, just to be a touch different. In the future if you ever fancied a larger turbo then..You'd see very impressive results.

Any thoughts?

Yeah, but I have a Milltek Ultra DP to sell and I would change the manifold anyway. Thereafter it is no more work than a GT2X or GT28.

For you LCR guys this is a good upgrade especially as you could basically just change the turbo itself and keep all the other parts.

Just following on from your posts in the hybrid K04-23/Imolavirus thread.

I don't know, but would you have to use a custom dp to mate the K04-23 to your exhaust? What about the charge piping - the routing is different you could either go custom, or switch to the LCR/TT225 routing, but then you might struggle for room with your drivers side throttle bosy, and have to convert to and Ibiza/LCR/TT225 inlet manifold. Obviously the TIP would be different too.

Might be a lot of work...

There's a thread somewhere about a guy that put a K04 on an Ibiza:

charge pipe can be fabbed well away from there easily enough, the downpipe is going to be roadsting there with no real air flowing past it.

I think the problem is that it's so difficult to prove an 8bhp gain independently, I could show RR figures with Jabba cars that were meant to produce 285bhp and have only managed 265bhp but the excercise is fairly pointless.

Jabba do what they do and do it well, but there are plenty of other tuners that can get good results too.

All I'm suggesting is that you are open minded and consider all the options.

I have no axe to grind but it may be worth spending some time researching different tuners on various forums to get a balanced view of maybe 4 or 5 really good companies.

Charge pipe looks like a standard Audi part. Audi logo is a bit of a giveaway! Is that the standard 180 part ?

Probably would want to fit an FMIC, so it might be possible to fit an Ibiza style charge pipe and a single pass FMIC

GReddy intercoolers for the Golf GTi route the charge pipe above the engine, down near the battery and into the IC, seems OK but i'm not sure about clearances with intake pipes/airbox. Also solves the pipe doubling back in the charge pipe is at the same side as the intake.

EIP Tuning have good photos on their site of their 1.8T Stage 3 kit but their charge pipe also seems to be close to the manifold. Maybe a heatshield or small bonnet scoop with a duct can alleviate this problem?
