some Advice on power upgrades

well people the standard 180bhp on my Leon is getting a little boring, it feels like it needs a kick up the arse to get it moving and i can tell the potential is there.

from my little knowledge of this engine and the difference between the cupra and cupra R it seems the cupra R has

- a bigger turbo, ko4? different MAF and two intercoolers and obviously a better map

im not wanting crazy power, a safe and reliable 230bhp'ish would be perfect, but not all at once, i am a student!

obviously a big restriction seems to be the turbo, if to upgrade i want something that fits directly in the same place as standard, it needs to spool quick provide a sensible amount of power. any ideas?

the maf im guessing cupra R and would probably be as well with a front mount intercooler.

map im looking at revo after looking at many people raving about it!

obviously a filter and exhaust to help with the breathing, am i missing anything? Are the injectors still good for this power?

brakes and suspension i think should be fairly straight forward. dont want to over stress the engine on this as its close to 80k however has full service history, new cambelt water pump etc and purrs like a kitty :)

any advice greatfull :)

i should also add: - what are the gearboxes like for coping with additional power? what kind of power can the standard clutch take?

The modifications you list are too extreme for what you want, if you were to do all you say (with uprated engine internals) you are looking at a conservative 300bhp. A remap will put you at around 200-220bhp alone and I've seen my car go from the factory ~225bhp to around the 270bhp mark from a revo map with standard internals, std air filter, std exhaust etc so bhp for £££ its worth it. You are taxing the standard components over what they are designed to do but the tolerances of such components are way above what a remap will push them too.
As for the gearbox, they are found in most VAG vechicles so you know they can hold up to increased power.

If you want to go for more power (round 250+ bhp) you can opt for a revo 2 stage map, which requires a filter, exhaust and a 4bar fuel regulator.
Pabs site can fill you in on more detail in what is required (www.leoncupra.co.uk).
Hope this helps.

thanks d3dna and tris, not used to this simple remap only and find it difficult to see how i can gain 40bhp etc form just a remap, i guess seeing results from everyone else proves that it does work, will probably opt for a filter and exhaust as well.

Your in turbo country my man. Forced induction gains are well above those of NA cars on a remap.

i used to have a 200sx it required fuel pump, colder plugs, decats and big exhausts to gain that sort of power, this is easy! loving it!

sports cat and remap at jabba gave my 180 cupra a quick 242

basic remap should give around 220. very noticable power difference from standard

Just a word of warning.....do not predict how much of an increase a map will give you....trust me.....its not always what it says on the label!

some of the figures in this thread seem way optimistic.

My cars running full stage 2..and its only around 240bhp...and i think last time it was dyno'd 267 ft-lbs torque. Expecting 230bhp from a revo and exhaust is extreme.

it all depends on your car
when i was at jabba i got there early and mike was just finishing a octy and that only got 215bhp from the same map as mine and he only ran it on shell optimax where as mine has on asda95 (only because of the fuel shortage)

Bollox...i know different cars varie...but not by that much...not unless his car was screwed.

Iv apparently got a good cupra...made 197 bhp from optimax, a booster and CAI...I dont beleive that to be to accurate.

But if your trying to tell me that you got nearly 240 bhp from a remap..then i will be fearless enough to call you a liar..or the Rolling road wasnt calibrated properly. Cupras are only qouted around 235bhp from full stage 2...thats exhaust, filter, Intercooler, 4 bar fpr and a stage 2 map.
