Dont think the clutch would be covered by warranty as it is a wearable part/

The car has 15k on the clock, however I only purchased the car in April 2006 and I have clocked 5k of the 15k; so I would hope that it would be covered on my warranty as I'm pretty confident my driving ain't that bad :lol:

Yes but he has only done 15k miles so the clutch integrity would have to be questioned unless he is running stupid power or the car has been clocked! It may be his driving style also, a lazy 5th/6th gear driver will wear the cluch down quick!

I do think though after only 15k miles, it should be changed under warranty. Who knows:shrug:

My car is completely standard, so no chance of the problem being related to modification, car defo hasn't been clocked as I've got FSSH, my driving is fast but not reckless, rarely redline her, don't do cruising in high gears, don't rag low gears, don't ride the clutch in traffic - making myself sound like a perfect driver here...I must be coz I'm a woman btw :p but you can call me 'he', I've been called worse :funk:

Try the search for MAF and all will be revealed. Very common problem on the 1.8T engine

Your problem doesnt sound like clutch, it could be anything really but if you have noticed a decrease in performance its 99% of the time down to MAF failure! Your stuttering may be down to a dodgy dump valve also?

Get it into the garage for a definitive answer but im pretty certain it wont be your clutch!

Oh dear... I have a sinking feeling..

After experiencing clutch slip over the last few weeks (now and again) I am doing some digging. Seems like clutch slip is quite common.

Seems very bad Engineering, as too, I have a stock FR 150 diesel, and only done 37k - from new. Drive it with due care, and within reasonable use (e.g. just replaced 4x tyres at 37k miles).

I would be very interested to know if any support from Seat over this matter. Engine modded vehicles asside - I can not believe that it is acceptable that you can expect sub 40k miles out of a clutch. At 600 quid for a replacement, this is more than the cost of the servicing of the car until now!!

Please, if anyone else has this poblem (from unmodified car) please add your comment. It is very useful to us all when we take on Seat.....

Its quite uncommon for standard vehicles to get clutch slip but again this can be down to YOUR style of driving. Riding the clutch, accelerating from 40mph in 6th gear etc.

The clutch is a wearable item and so are your tyres/pads/discs etc.

Unfortunately its just the cost of owning a car. You should have replaced tyres/pads and perhaps even discs by now at 37k.

Seat will do nothing about it. The high spec evos/scoobies can expect 15-20000miles from their clutches for example.

Its not bad engineering by any means, some people have doubled their torque figure and have been driving 50000miles without a slipping clutch! Well beyond the torque rating of the clutch no doubt.

The majority of time its all to do with your own individual driving style. If your lazy and unwilling to change down a gear then your clutch is going to go a lot quicker!

Mitchy - you are quite correct. It is very dependant upon how you use the car.

From my point of view, I am not heavy on the clutch. I use the gears "correctly" and do not slip the clutch on setting off - more than necessary. Although I do enjoy the performance the car offers - I would say that I am far from an abbusive drive (hence, front pads have a lot of meat yet, tyres lasted 37k, etc.).

My previous car was a P307 DTurbo. OK, not quite the same beast - but I drove it from new to 150k miles. Never had clutch problems. Why should I accept less from an "more premium" vehicle.??

At 640 quid per 40k miles, this is a significant on-cost to the ownership of the vehicle. If owners of unmodified cars accept this kind of quality - we are letting Seat off the hook.

Roll over and let them have my 640 quid - I think not!

As I said in my firs post - I encurage other non-modified vehicle owners to share if they have also had this problem - and to highlight to potential purchasers of this hidden cost.

I've done 45k in mine from new and have had no clutch slip whatsoever and have had a remap since 25k miles and I regularly plant my right foot!

If you are driving a previously owned vehicle you can't complain about things like slipping clutches because you just don't know how the car has been drivin/treated by the previous owner(s)!
