its that time again for another "Smees most probably pointless question"

ok.. i know of all the features on the seat cupra. tc abs esp think there is another one. ohh eba. i know what they all are... so here is my question

is TC, ABS, EBA and ESP all seperate safety features or is it only one safety feature called ESP which inturn switches on and controls TC, ABS and EBA.

and

when switching off the esp.. i know the TC goes off but the abs stays on.. but does that speacial brake system still work or is that disabled too

sorry if i havent made it clear what im asking it is only 9 am

Nether seen the point in switching the ESP off, because you can take the car to the limit with it on. Switch it off and there is a chance you wil regret it.

Ask M0rk about his views about ESP on the Mk4 ibiza.

Don't know why but I find that im fighting the car sometimes with ESP on, What I do is when on the motorway and A roads, leave it switched on. But when I'm on B road or if a want a bit of FUN, turn it off.

You can get an Ibiza or Leon with ESP on nicely sideways. What it won't let you do is get a pendulum effect on - so when you 'swing back' you won't get into a tank slapper moment.

If you're using the ABS 'a lot' then you need to improve your driving ability

:) Just I use Mil std's at work a lot - and have been known to suggest implementing that particular std from time to time

ESP uses ABS, doesnt mean the button switches it off the ABS off...

It just uses the ABS sensors to detect wheel speeds and applies the brakes on the inner wheels if understeering etc.

The ABS and EBA will still work 100% when anchoring up.

Well when I tried an emergancy stop/left foot braking with the ESP light on , there is no pulsating of the brake and there is a definate lock of the wheels + longer stopping distance even funnier in the wet.

When I was testing an Ibiza FR on the prodrive handling circuit - with ESP on - and the ABS and EBA all functioning I didn't find any of it obtrusive.

It's not all low speed stuff at top end 3rd gear, sometimes 4th - but the car still was very (suprisingly) agile.

I can't say I had the ABS kick in apart from when I made a mistake - although I didn't findthe EBA an annoyance, but learnt to drive around it.

with suitable throttle & steering inputs the back could be provoked to pull the nose in quite easily - then carrying on

On a wet skid surface the ESP was very impressive - making it impossible to spin out despite a lot of handbrake!
