Couldnt believe it when i got a call from Seat to say that my service was going up from the standard £190 30k service to £670ish
:censored:

Apparently it needs new front disk and pads which the guy says costs about £470!! ....which im finding hard to believe.

And plus i only had the front pads changed 10k ago, but apparently when new disks are put in its common to have new pads as well. Is this true??

So my current pads are only probably half worn!!

But atleast the good thing is that they've agreed to change my brake fluid for free instead of charging me £47 :-o (after arguing)

So not to happy today, so my main question is have i been taken for a mug?? or are these parts and labour prices good??

Thanks in advance

Ask them to keep the pads for you to inspect, the only way you can tell is by seeing them........after all you paid for them so they are your property.

You could ask to keep the disks too, the minimum wear level is stamped into the edge of the disc 26mm thick or something (do a search) is minimum thickness

You really would be best to do the brakes yourself. Pretty striaght forward by all accounts, there is a guide on here.

Should cost you ~£220 for the discs and ~£100 for the pads plus a morning of your time.

That's a saving of over £150!

Ask them what they have measured the disc thickness at. Many places will not even bother and just scam people.
My discs are at 26.7 (65% worn) and the garage said they needed changing. I will take mine right down to min spec for that price thanks.

The pads will be fine.

Its already being changed now apparently, but its well worth knowing for the future. I will ask to see the pads and disks when they've finished, firstly to prove they've been changed and secondly to see how much wear is actually on them.

Also in the future i will look to do my own (may need some help though as havent had any experience in changing disks and pads) but will use the guide on here when i do.

Cheers for your fast responses though guys :)

a mate of mine does m.o.t. work and he has said before that they will not measure them and will just look and should only advise you they need changing. How many times would you see an apprentice grease monkey use vernier calipers to measure the disks correctly. they probably dont even know what they are or even have at hand to use

Done, they said they will have them ready for me when i collect the car.
But at first they were questioning why i would want them.

They probably think i dont trust them.................then they would be right :D

Does this mean that basically i have the right to see or take anything they remove from or change on my car as theoretically i own the parts??

Say if the pads have any meat on them you want to keep the pads for a track day, that should help with any warranty claims in the future :cartman:

Seriously tell them if the pads have any meat on them your keeping them as spares

did they change them prior to asking your permission ?!?

I'd be taking things further with the After-sales Manager if that's the case....

No they did ask first
but being at work and not really knowing whats a good deal or not, i just allowed them to go ahead with it. maybe in hindsight it would have been best for them just to carry out the service and list any parts that they think need changing so that i can do them another time. Its just the hassle of going back again :sigh:
