I was invited down by Performance VW mag to join them at Bruntingthorpe Air Strip to do a bit of a thrash day!
I had a wicked day!
Very early start and feel shattered now!
There were 13 of us in total
If anyone has this months PVW mag or any other with a thrash day in they will see what its about!
I got first blood and the timing gear was put in my car…The track was damp in places but not too bad tbh.
I only got the one session with the timing gear unfortunately but I did…
0-60 in 6.2
0-100 cant remember lol
¼ mile in either 14.4 or 14.7 lol
and top speed was 152.7mph
right, firstly one thing… I didn’t expect the airfield tarmac to be as bad as what it is! it certainly doesn’t compare to POD where I got 13.8 last time!
0-60 was sooo hard… I only did a few attempts… basically due to crap traction I struggled to get the power down and was spinning in 1st, 2nd and 3rd and could only get 6.2. So I got someone to sit in with me to see if it would help and it did a lot! But ironically I still got 6.2 seconds to 60mph! doh! (If it was at pod Im sure I could brake into the 5s!)
last excuse re 0 – 60 is that I was always under the impression that I could hit 62mph in 2nd gear and thus for 90% of the runs I just let it hit the limiter in 2nd to make sure I was goin over 60mph… but what did I notice when I looked at the timing equipment…. The fcuking limiter is at 59. something mph in my car! :cry; so having to change to 3rd to hit 60mph doesn’t help the LCR time! :-(
EDIT: excuse number 104… I literally had over ¾ of a tank in the car! doh!

top speed… now this I enjoyed lol.
I had 2 attempts at this… first one was immediately after all my launches for 0-60 etc and as a result as I was gaining speed, 120, 130, 140 etc etc I could feel the engine was heat soaked quite badly and I was approaching the end of the straight and thought sh*t better brake! On that attempt I hit 152.3mph
I then did a cool down lap and ran again… this time when I hit about 120mph I trimmed the boost back slightly on the jabba boost controller so that the engine wouldnt get quite so hot… I think this sort of worked… but I also had the bottle to brake a bit later this time, and I hit 152.7mph
Interestingly both times on the speedo the needle got to bang on the 160mph mark… so that’s not too bad! Means my speedo is out 5% at the top end. (one guy with golf was right off the clock but only hit 140mph... shows how all cars are different!)
I would say if the straight was longer I could have prob hit about 155mph (I have had the needle slightly past where the 160 mark is, about where 165 would be) so I guess a true 155mph is possible?!
Also looking at the hall of fame section in PVW I see once upon a time Bill did a 151.9mph run and also a 159.6mph run in his IHI Ibiza (stripped?!). So I guess my time isn’t bad! :whistle; (Elliott and Si were impressed for a k04! )
Right enough about me lol... the other cars…
Some very impressive results…
Ashley (whos in this months polo thrash in the PVW mag) improved his 0-60 time big time! He has IHI mrk3 polo stripped out on slicks and he did a 4.8 0-60!
Other quick 0 – 60s were 3.7 buy the twin engine mk3 golf and 4.2 but a 3litre VR6 turbo mk2 golf (4WD!)
Also the twin engine golf did a 177.5mph top speed run followed very closely by James from jabbasport with his 1.8T mk 2 golf… 177.4 mph!
Next time il have to strip my car completely and get some racing slicks like the others! lol
