Right. finally managed to fit my short shift today.

easy enough to fit with the right tools. .

I'm finding that i struggle to get into first gear. I just won't go in sometimes!!! esp after just starting up. A few times i've had to go into another gear first then into first gear. There is a similer problem when changing down from 2nd to 1st gear (at junctions etc.)

It's not every time but it generslly happens when you least expect it or when you think the problem has eased off.

Up and down movements of the gear knob also feel very tight and juddery (side to side are as normal).

any ideas on what the problem might be or how to smooth it out.

other than that it feels tight but good. albeit a bit notchy, but i was expecting that. It will take a litle time to get used to.

any ideas???

Mine did that too, i took it back off and chucked a bit more grease on there and didnt do the nut up so tight!!! Shes ok now. Whats this about setting up the gearbox? Is it a job for the retarded or will i have to book it in somewhere?

I had a wee tweak earlier. I took the securing bolt off and noticed the short shift was not quite flush/level with the splines. I tightened the bolt up more to push the short down that final mm and greased it up. It's finding 1st now. it's still tighter than the rest of the gears but now i can start to enjoy my 50% reduction!!!

overall it's a tighter feel but not too oppressive and the reduction is very obvious. So far i'm liking it.:joystick:

I think maybe the problem stemmed from me dropping the original bolt into the engine bay! (despite all the warnings of "DO NOT LOSE THIS BOLT") on the instructions. I had to replace it with a bolt i found in the shed.

It's a good mod i have to say. And i'd urge anyone to do it themselves rather than pay a garage to do it. I followed Pabs guide (cheers Pabs:clap: )it's dead easy with the right tools (my OEM shifter was stuck tight so a gear puller was needed). I must also stress that this was my first attempt at any under the bonnet type mod and i'm not very technical at all, so if i can do it anyone can!!!

just wish i wasn't working so much and could get round to doing the dog bone mounts bushes as the wheel hop i'm getting since my remap is just crazy!

finally, don't suppose anyone knows the part number for the securing bolt for the shifter??? And also does anyone know the part number for the gear cable clip that attaches to the shirt shift (i didn't lose this clip (honest!) It was missing from my side to side shifter and must have been for ages now!

I had this problem when I first put on my short shift. I couldn't get reverse either!

One of the chaps from JBS talked me through setting up the gearbox again. Now its perfect.

Hard to explain how to do it, but give me a call on 07921 503 219 and i'll tell you.

Thanks, Tom

cheers for the offer but it seems to be resolved now. If it starts playing up again i'll give you a call.

thanks again
