Servicing... How often...

How often should these cars be serviced?

It was serviced at 65,000 miles when the cam belt was changed as there was no previous record of this being done.

The mileage is now at 78,000 and when the ignition is turned on the screen where it normally gives you mileage says SERVICE.

Is it due or would it be a case that the garage didn't reset the service light???

All filters etc were changed at around 65k. i have just fitted an induction kit. This wouldn't affect it would it???

Thanx.

Fair enough. I think i should change my plugs as well. My brother is a mechanic so can change all the parts. How much am i looking at just to buy all the bits required.

Yep oil and filter aren't a problem. Does everyone change their plugs every 10k?

This sounds too regular to me but if it has to be done then so be it!!!

You could ask your brother? ;)

IIRC they should be Serviced every year or 12,000 miles, whichever comes first!

The cambelt is supposed to be done every 5 years

If your Service light is flashing its probably either that its ready for a Service or it hasnt been reset by the garage that Serviced it! You can change it with VAG COM (so could do that tonight with Ian) and tell it when to come on next

you can also remove it without vagcom

i think you :-

turn on ignition (not engine) while holding reset button on bottom of right stalk
then hit the other button on stalk right and turn ingnition off

off the top of my head thats how you do it, might be something else as well, cant remember now, was a while ago

I haven't seen my brother in 2 weeks!!!!!

He basically lives with his girlfriend. I will get him to do it though. He changed the oil and oil filter a little while ago and the air filter, not the plugs, but now i've changed the air filter but i don't think he reset the service light as he didn't have his computer / diagnostics thing with him. I'll talk to him tonight. get him to change everything again and reset it. Can only do it good!!!

My 2001 Cupra has 36k miles on at the moment.....I can only find in the service book that the cam belt should be inspected at 60k miles, it says nothing about length of time....

I am a little worried as she is 5 years old now, should I get it done even if the service book says 65k miles? If the service book says 65k and I wait and it snaps where would I stand in taking up the matter with Seat?

Cheers!!!

In response to the above.. which is prob old by now - SEAT say to have the cambelt done every 8 years. I got mine when it was 8 years old and i told them i'd only buy it if they did the cambelt and water impeller first... was a bill (main dealer) of £565. Glad I did that!
