Hi all,

Driving home last week and my digital readings on my dash went blank and my dash froze completely. My power steering seem to be affected but the rest of the car, lights etc continued to work. When I stopped the car it would not restart and the dash lights stayed on and were frozen. I removed the appropriate fuse and after 30 mins or so I replaced it and it reset itself and was able to start. However the airbag light stayed on. The problem got progressively worse and now the dash will freeze after about 5 mins of driving. I took it to an autoelectricians and he said I need a new dash at 337 + vat and then my two keys recoded. All in all going to cost me around £650.

The car is an 03 plate tdi 130.

Can anyone help?

Well after much research I got my dash re-conditioned by BBA Reman so in all cost me around £300 with fitting, postage and re-fitting. 4 days after I got the dash back the same problem occured. I spoke to BBA Reman as you get a 2 year warranty and they will repair it. However it will still cost me a £100 for the removal and fitting. Any got a dash removal guide?

That's not good news mate, sorry to hear it. My car had the same problem, albeit before I had purchased it from the previous owner. I see from the receipts it is an expensive repair, but at least my car was under warranty :)

One thing that does annoy me though is now it has been replaced, the service indicator is completely out of sync with the actual services :(

Yeah it seems it is quite a common fault although no dealer will admit!

BBA said now it is unrepairable although it had a 2 year warranty 4 days ago which is annoying. They have refunded me the cost of repair but I still have to go and buy a new dash at £380. Even more annoyingly I am again without a car and the "new" dash at £380 is actually a re-conditioned dash (here we go again) but what choice do I have! No car or a new dash it's a no-brainer really. Really hacked off with it all to be honest. I will get a 2yr warranty but it could go again as before. Really don't know what to do?

Any ideas anyone?
