The car had been sitting for a week while we were on holiday. Tried to start it and all we got was the starter motor and nothing else.

After trying the usual suspects plugs, coils packs, fuses etc i tried to run vag-com on it and it wouldn't play ball it just said NO RESPONSE FROM THE CONTROLLER.

We have now removed the ecu from the car and found that it was full of condensation also found that two of the resistors had been fried. There was no sign of any water anywhere near where the ecu is located.

The ecu was totally sealed by some sort of silicone/glue sealant, are the ecu's sealed as standard or has someone sealed it up??

Car has revo stg 2 on it.

Any advise would be appreciated.

sealed by greyish sealant.
common problem if it hasnt got the black strip over the top to prevent water going into multiplugs then into ecu or your drain holes are blocked

The poly cover is missing but the bulk of the condesation was on the boards.

I'll take a picture of the board and the two dead resistor because my bro needs to know what value they are so he can replace them.

No dirt just condensation. No sign of any other water just the condensation inside the unit itself.

It's been dried out and although 2 maybe 3 resistors look totally fried the car is now running fine, panic over - FOR NOW!

Just been for a good run and it's singing nicely again. ECU is coming back out tomorrow and all the components and boards are getting coated properly conformal coating the way they should be from the factory to prevent this **** happening!! New plastic cover will be fitted also.

Matt it's my brother's silver cupra that had the problem not mine, it has revo stg 2 fitted.

yeah i know what you mean......i thought i had the dreaded knackered ecu the other week when i had an eeprom error occur. touch wood it hasnt come back and all is well.

it would be good to be able to cover it with something to try and prevent any of this heartache!!!!

I wouldn't keep it in a bag as thats how I used to keep mine until I had isssues. It would appear that being kept in a bag caused the ECU to sweat leading to spurious fault codes.

Going get it resealed later today after the conformal coating has dried then put a couple of silica gel packets in with it. And make the splash gaurd for it. Sorted!!
