I find the bluetooth works really well for normal phone functions but I have never tried streaming music, although I was told when I picked the car up it could be done.
I have put my music on to a micro SD card and fitted that to the portable system and play the music from there.

As Biker says, with the Portable System you can play music from a microSD card, or stream music via Bluetooth from your Android/iOS smartphone. Both work well. The sound quality of the new head-unit/portable system is reasonable with 6 speakers. I have mine faded slightly to the rear to enhance the mid-low end but on the whole it is pretty good. Clarity and mid range is pretty good in my opinion, only the low end is lacking when you incorporate road noise etc... which is where you would benefit from a sub. I did all of that in my last car and I do miss it, but I just can't be arsed to mess around with things when I wouldn't want to change the head-unit as things are so tightly integrated as standard. Gotta grow up sometime :)

i didnt remove my stock headunit, i added the sub to the stock system i intend to do the same with this one, all you do is use a highlevel imput from the rear speakers wiring to the subwoofer (may need an adaptor if the amp doesnt support it) then you set the bass and trebble back and balance the sub with the stock system so it becomes all one unit but with an active sub, the results are good and you can use the front rear fader to adjust the bass from the sub if you listen do different music etc.

also can you play video ie mp4 on the sd card slot?

No you can't play video, audio only. You can display pictures though...

I was tempted to add a sub running from the rear speakers but as I said before, if I'm going to go to the trouble of running power cables for an amp to the rear of the car and removing door cards etc... I would want to be changing to a higher quality head-unit with dedicated pre-outs and amplifying all speakers to really make the effort worth-it. I think my issue is that once I start I probably won't stop and before I know it the whole thing will be covered in sound deadening and so on... I've just bought my first house so I need to be happy with the stock system :)

lol fair enough im not as bothered as that i have a 2k system indoors for critical music i just like a bit more thump when i listen to electronic music, apart from the lack of deep bass i find the system on my 2010 ibiza fine really, with added sub its perfect for what i want.

nothing sounds musically correct in a car anyway, i had a lexus ls400 with a 3k nikamachi system installed from the factory and even that couldnt match my indoor setup although it was pretty special for a car system ...

my vcds cable and software arrived today and for anyone with vag com and the deleted rear speakers in the 2012 and possibly others, i have located the menu to reactivate the cross fader on the mp3 stereo (tested on my 2010 ibiza).

go to the radio module and coding, then go to long code helper (it will say there is no data available but dont worry) go to the 3rd bit across and you should see some tick boxes appear, if you have no cross fader you should find that the 2nd box down is ticked, and if you have the cross fader the 3rd box down will be ticked and the 2nd box will be unticked (if this is not what you see then dont touch).

if the above is what you see then take note of the previous setting and then make the adjustment by unticking box 2 and ticking box 3 and save the changes, if you go to the audio settings on the radio you should see the cross fader :)

this cross fader option in vag com also dissables the rear amplifier so even if you connect speakers without this setting changed you will get no sound.

to make this work you will need to devise a way to either fit the pins in the connector block that plugs into the stereo and then run wiring to the rear speakers to be fitted, or find an adapter that duplicates the wiring from the stereo this might enable you to exploit the terminals if they have the pins in the right place....
