Yellow Oil Warnning Light

andyj

There's no F in Quality..
On the way back to Derby from Devon this afternoon, just approaching the services on the M42 and the Yellow Oil Warning Light comes on, with a single BEEP.

Proceed to pull into the services, leave the car 10mins to cool down etc, and then checked the oil level.... just off the bottom of the 'normal' bit on the dipstick.

Left it another 5mins, and the same level.

So I popped into the petrol station and looked for some oil.... the only stuff they had that met the VW505 standard was Castrol Edge @ £14 for 1L !!!! robbing gits !!!

Chucked it in, and the level's back up to the middle of the 'normal' bit on the dip stick.

Any ideas why it would be using oil like that ?

It was last serviced in August, and has done 11k since then.

Have read on here someone had a faulty filler cap that was leaking oil. Thinking back on it, someone commented @ Donny that my filler cap was rather oily, and I just put it down to the spanner monkey who did the service had just split some.....

Looks like I've got a duff filler cap!

Any idea how much oil it takes to go from min->max on the dip stick ?
