Sorry posted this in the main section not the ice one, my bad

Hi all,

Sorry of this has been posted but can’t find anywhere, basically I got a new Leon ecomotive that I want to fit an aftermarket stereo. I have the wiring loom from ebay but the wires are not connected to the holes and I can’t seem to match them up to the back of the radio.

Can anyone help please

Thanks in advance

OK so update, got a wiring adapter of ebay that fits a treat (bmw was on the box) so the radio now works however it doesnt turn off with the ignition? Have read somewhere you need to attach a cable to a ignition feed would that be right? So can i leave it live but just take the face of the cd player, guessing battery may die rather quickly

Thanks

B

More likely need to just swap over the permanent positive and ignition positive leads.
I had touble in my MK1 LCR with this. I didnt need any extra wiring loom. My Alpine head unit had connectors in its own cables to allow me to do it. I think Seat dont use the correct ISO standard for these plugs/sockets. (They swap the power cables round a bit!)

What brand of Head Unit have you got?

Hi steve,

Yes the new adapters are a pain in the but!!! Ive attached some pics for you. One showing the fitting from the back of the orginall stereo and others of the lead and stereo working. I did try and change the red and yellow wires over but with no joy

Sorry havent posted 15 posts so no hot links please have a look here add the hypertext transfer protocol bit at the front

Ok. MK2.
Fraid I don't know the pin layout of the Mk2 loom.
(Could link you to a MK1 diagram no problem  )
I would do a search (google and on SCN and ICECAVERN.COM) for both your Head unit Pin-out and that of the MK2.
Ok bored.... done it ....
get the 7600 here.... http://www.pioneer.co.uk/uk/support/index.html
If you've getting sound to all the right speakers with the correct balance and fade, then you can safely ignore them.
When you turn off completely, do you lose radio presets? if so that still points to +'ve and ignition +'ve being swapped.
Some of the loom pins will be CD changer too if you have/had one as standard. Can ignore those.
I'd have thought the power and other cables left would be fairly simple.
+'ve (Fused)
ignition +'ve (possibly fused)
GND
Aerial supply
Remote turn on supply.
Phone Mute

Cheers Steve

Do you think there is an ignition live on the loom? What i mean is even if you the ignition is not on in the new leon you can still work the radio??? stange

Also i did read taking a ignition feed of the cigar lighter, could be an option

Looking at your CAR2 pic on flickr
I belive that :-
Blue pins - CD changer
Brown pins - Speakers
Black - Power/GND/Ignition etc.

Only 5 pins to figure out.
Black cable is usually your GND
Red and Yellow are usually your +'ve and ignition +'ve
only leave two others to figure out!
As long as they all trace though your adaptor loom to the correct pins then you should be fine.

edit
Just read you last post.
By Ignition +'ve I mean a wire that will be positive when the ignition is on and open circuit (nothing!) when the ignition is off.
This will connect to your Head unit to tell it when to turn on and off.
The Permanent 12V +'ve lead is the full power to the head unit and also what keeps your radio presets stored.

You don't want to get your Ignition +'ve and your supply/power +'ve mixed up as the supply/power +'ve usually takes a lot more current (larger fuse) to power the internal amp. Your ignition +'ve cable/fuse will not be rated high enough for this.

This was the case in my car as the head unit could suck up a huge number of Amps!

Also, a BMW loom might have the right style of connectors but the pins/wiring might be complete cack when used in a Seat! ;)

Hopefully you've sorted this now but if not I used to have one of these and steve is correct in saying swap the red and yellow wires... there are plugs in the pioneer loom that enable you to do this in seconds (a useful feature that other companies should utilise IMO)

Any thoughts

The only thing I can suggest is running a wire from the ignition loom to the ignition in the head unit loom... its really hard to diagnose without seeing it! Sorry but I think I've hit the ceiling of my advice:( Sorry but good luck. Might not cost too much to get a reputable installer to sort it for you:shrug:
