Some clown caught my drivers side wing mirror tonight whilst driving past me.
The Bloke stopped and we exchanged details (his Mini was also damaged).

I now need to buy a replacement. When I looked at it it seems that the damage isnt too bad, the motor still works for the direction of the window and the mirror still rettracts.

Can I buy just the parts that are broken or do i need a complete assembly.

The bits that are broken are the glass, the black painted front cover and the plastic surround.

Is there a technical diagram anywhere with part numbers I can see?

And finally, how much do you all reckon it will cost me?

you might have to buy the complete assembly, others on here with more knowledge will advise i'm sure! with a lot of these assemblies you're forced to buy the whole lot, otherwise dealers etc would be left with odds and ends.

I know you can buy the chrome covers (might force me into changing them now), and you must be able buy the glass.

The plastic surround is the bit im most concerned about.

Also, how do you replace them????

the colour coded cover , glass and main body are seperate units, the same happened to me last week and was quoted 130 plus vat for all three plus painting.

I paid £70 for the main mirror assembly and £9 for the back plate (painting cost me another £20) dunno how much the glass is!

Fitting is easy just take door card off by prising inside door handle, plate off (this is trickiest part) then screws behind it then undo screws at bottom of door card to remove it, then prise off the plastic plate behind door miirror inside and undo the screws and disconnect cable then pull away and then fit new mirror assembly.

The back plate of the mirror assembly just clips on (when painted) and so does the glass (don't forget to connect wires to spade connector on glass if heated mirrors)

I'll get on to Seat in Derby today to see if they can get the parts in time for the car going in a week on friday for a bit of warranty work.
Cheers.

heated glass is circa £25 from a vw dealer, so prob the same from a seat dealer.
Try ebay though - picked myself up some bargains there :)

The lower black plastic cover is part of the main assembly, and you can't buy it separately (annoyingly). So for a new one that's £70.

At least you end up with a spare motor...

Simon.

The back plastic cover (that is colour coded) doesn't come with the main assembly and you can buy it seperately as I did so only a month ago!
