window query

my drivers side window desides to work as and when it wants to. some days it will work fine and others it wont even go down. anyone got an idea as to why it isn't just not working at all or just working all the time??

Hi mate...got a few probs with my windows....passenger one goes up and down everytime but when i put it up it stops 2-3cm short and i have to repress the swithx....also my drivers side would not go down.....i tried the key in door method and it goes down fine so i then took the drivers switch panel out and swoped the switches over (driver/passengers window) now i know its the switch as my drivers window is fine but i canot open the pass one from my side...however if its open i can close it....just a bit of trail and error to find out!

i have the same problem with my driver side window, I think the switch has died

My drivers side window switch is playing up aswell, can you replace just the switch or do you have to replace the whole unit

mine does exactly the same. when it was for a service seat sed it was the window inup and they would charge 153 quid to fix. so ill think ill wait to find one in a scrappy.

very very common problem, although my seat parts and service man says he has never had a mk3 in with a broken window, might have something to do with the £280 quid he quoted me to fix my drivers window. took mine to a vw specailist in birmingham, new motor fitted for 100 quid, result!

Hello all maybe i can help mine did just as all of you said, you can change the switch it isnt a problem but this isnt what was wrong with mine. check both switches if its the same then it will be your motor i found one on ebay for £20 and fitted new motor.

Now its spot on!!!

You guys tried re programming your windows? (ie: start with them fully open, then close them but keep the switch pressed for about 30secs after window has closed fully) Mine mess up every so often, a quick re program does the trick.
