Will 16" wheels fit with 312mm discs?

Hi all,

After the last two bloody awful winters I really want to get another set of rims exclusively for use in the worst of the winter months. My 03 (facelift) Cupra has 312mm front discs. Any ideas if 16" rims will fit with the larger front brakes. Was thinking of getting a set of Bora steelies or similar, ready to go on when the slippery stuff arrives. Any ideas?

Cheers, DubSteve :)

My cupra came with 16" as standard and 312mm discs

Cheers Lee (and everyone else who replied) :)

I wasn't sure as many parts suppliers list 288mm discs for the original Cupras which of course had 16" alloys. If you've got 312mm discs and 16" wheels that's good enough for me. Next purchase, one set of Bora steelies, assuming they'll fit ok - if not then a cheap/shagged set of original Cupra alloys will do :D

Cheers, DubSteve

288mm were for the diesels, the original petrol Cupras always came with 312mm discs fitted.

You can also look for Beetle steelies as well ;) just to open up your search options a bit. Or spare wheels from 4 original Cupras :)

The mk4 Ibiza also had 5x100 PCD wheels, with an ET of 43, and the 16s from the Sport models will fit over the 312s as well - http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showpost.php?p=3585048&postcount=6

i have a leon sport "pre cupra" 180bhp 1,8T, 2001 model. and it has the 312mm. so i know.

if you look at the audi a3, audi tt, vw golf, vw bora, seat leon.. all cars with 180bhp or more have 312mm front., 150bhp tdi and 150bhp 1,8t have 288mm.

just looked up the audi tt, all tt had 312mm only the V6 had 334*32.

What age of beetle should I look out for? I am also after some steel wheels for my Cupra for the winter, and I run 312mm at the front.

V5 Toledo's also use 16's... if you want some wheels that look perfectly ordinary...

There's usually at least one being broken on ebay.
