Just a thought really, always seeing cheap IHI turbos removed from scooby do's on ebay and everyone is always on the hunt for cheap K03s conversions, wouldnt it be just as easier (and in fact easier to source IHI than K03s) to do a IHI conversion and maybe run 280-290 BHP comfortably?

Who makes the manifold required to mount a IHI turbo and what else is required

THe manifold is made for jabba

but you need their special TIP, downpipe and somehow make up oil & coolant lines. as well as turbo outlet pipe....

cos my brain is not as big as the IHI lot. if it was that easy then surely more would have done it.

oh right so they wont sell the manifold seperately?

Is their special TIP just a load of pipes bunged together using joiners though ? If all companies started selling the bits and peices individually there would be loads of profit to be made for all as everyone could save money and DIY it

Forge could make a TIP for example, Jabba supply the manifold etc

yeah I know Grant has told me he has a excellent custom mapper at his disposal so this wouldnt be a problem, anyone with technical knowledge fancy breaking down whats involved parts wise?

Matt you ok for tomorrow night logging wise?

also i thought bits like the manifold are not just off the shelf parts you can source and bolt on.

Seriously if you think its as easy as just bolting on simple power ups and getting it all mapped together, then you are gonna be in for a big shock. There are some very very skillful people on here with tonnes of knowledge and even they struggle on certain things. the 1.8t engine is simple in principle, but due to the dependence on its ECu and control systems it is very easy to get wrong.

I would reckon it may be easier if you added an aftermarket ECU and set up. but it ain't cheap. plus get it wrong and it'll be TICK TICK TICK BOOOOOOOMMM

Chris, Thats not really DIY then isit, in my eyes DIY would be to fabricate all the components yourself :)

all down to your skills at your disposal.
there are those who do DIY and fabircate what they need, research and purchase their components etc.... and whether it works or not is all down to them.

knowing what to use and where is part of the experience you get from companies who have done it.

Jabba and AET for example will sell a manifold and parts to build.

matt that sounds fantastic, my MAF is still disconnected and the car feels better apart from my disco lights on my dash, those'll need clearing first, MAF reconnecting and some logging doing, at least I know I can order a MAF at the begining of next month then when I can afford it! Still have to see Grant about my turbo back exhaust hes got waiting to fit for me! :(

Its a shame no-one wants to build a list of all the components needed though so at least we could source the majority of parts second hand or heavily discounted new items and then take them to jabba /westec etc to be fitted

but look at it fro Jabba, do you really think they will be happy fitting customer sourced parts, who's fault is it if they fail and cause damage, i would doubt they even bother

We've done stuff like this before, tends to be more of a hassle than it's worth. I've had cars here for months because customers have sourced they're own parts and they've been wrong or somethings missing or something else is needed to make it work.

Plus we wouldn't give any sort of warranty with it which might cause upset.
