Oh i never realised it was a different engine????? DOHHHHH

My point was.....if those 3 forum members above actually read the first post was, how can just a cat back change the cars sound so dramatic??? A LCR upgraded cat back sounds normal, as does alot of the turbo'd cars of the LCRs era.

A standard VXR does not pop and bang and sound angry at all?

Be glad u dont have 1 they are unrealiable and most fixes r 1000k plus made with sub standard parts, and for 1 of the main common faults 2 be (like the corsa vxr) piston no4 fail resulting in new engine is shocking. I was a vauxhall man all my life until just recent when 1 nearly put me into major debt, so i could live with the sound difference

Plus gearboxes are weak as well. Iv heard its the same 6 speed box as the astra diesels. Is that true??

It is, i had both got rid of my vxr which had about 4k of major repairs needed but plamed it off 2 main dealer b4 they went n changed it for the black 2 door 150 sri diesel and breathed a big sigh of relief, well lets just say that dint last long, the dms started to go 1k to do, inlet manifold started over 1k to replace so 10 months later that was traded back in and now i have my cupra. The astra are 1 dam fine looking car but buy 1 at ur own risk. They are made with **** parts and failure will happen

Jesus that is a lot of problems dude, i was gonna say that u could have been unlucky with the vxr but 2 cars to go wrong is enough to put anyone off tbh. I have been looking at them but i think i will wait till they drop even more me thinks

ha ha i wouldnt even bother, if you do look at all the common faults and that will put you off, air con hoses, wiring looms, gear boxes, dms, pistons coming through the head, gear box and a lot more. both mine were late 2008 cars so werent old and my vxr had done 21000 my diesel had done 38000 so hadnt had high mileage. save and get the current leon cupra.
rant over anyway lol

I have to agree that the Astra vxr is a very fragile car, well mine was anyways.

I had mine for just over 5 months and it needed over £3k worth of repairs done. It was only just over 4yrs old with 32k miles. I've never heard of the piston problems tho, that was just related to the corsas.

The main expensive failure was the **** M32 gearboxes. It cost me £1360 to have rebuilt. I suppose running 350lbft of torque through it was a tad high but even the standard cars had the same problem. The 1.9 diesels even have them.

My Intercooler, air con unit and everything that goes with it went tits up and needed replaced costing £1790.

The worst thing was I owned an Evo 8 before it and the reason I sold it was because I was always worried something would break and cost me a fortune lol. It never put a foot wrong in the year I had it lol.
