whining noise

hello people, i've done a search on this and still not completely sure even if i have a problem, recently the whining noise coming from the power steering is much louder, it only happens when turning at slow speeds, its quite a loud noise, but does quite down a little after its been driven, still i'm convinced it shouldn't be this loud. anyone else had this?

is the power steering pump driven by the alternator belt? could it be that?

alternator is not a whinning noise really its more of a screech my mum's tt had this prob was leaking so reckon it maybe that

If your loseing power steering fluid sounds like your steering rack and will get progressivly worse, happened to mine.

Seat want in excess of £600 for the part alone so after a load of looking found out that the golf 4motion is the same rack, did it for £350 fitted.

no i checked the fluid levels and they are fine so i guess its not leaking. BUT i have noticed this the other day and its got me quite worried, the turbo is making a really bad noise now, i havn't notice this before but i very rarely drive it without music on, the noise is like a empty metally noise (hard to imagine i know), tbh if i heard it without being in it i would say it was fu*ked but the performance is still there? its only done about 28k and i mainly drive at weekends so it doesn't get abused. i was hoping it is because more recently it hasn't been driven as much (long story £££) and that it needs to be, and whats worst i cant get it serviced till late january

ive got the whinning noise from engine bay, but only hear it over 20mph wheather driving strait or corners!! any ideas, im new many thanks!!!

alryt there i just recentley put a post up with the same symptoms as it has put a hold on me fitting my mods ...

i have just now got back from my friend (seat mechanic)and my pulley on the pump is moving in and out under load causing this problem i have been told take the belt off and run without to c if that works obv giving your answer to if it was the pump or not but himslef and the machine are 80% sure it is lol.

my noise is the same noise all the time wheather im turning or just on the motorway for a few miles, would that still be the pump?????

not too sure for a definate answer but thats how it usually starts and gets worse

just had a quote for a new power steering pump £296.30
and get £70 back for return of the old one .....

this has shocked me

anyone who has got a powersteering pump 2nd hand lol

what wheres that from mate? do u no any one in the motor trade to get it cheaper? i used to work for ford so i get my stuff though them still so get my 20% of nice....
i thought it mite be the discs but its still there when i brake soft or hard as there is red stuff discs on already... may i ask what pads n discs u have please bassboi

i can get one from my mate but there is a 2 day wait to drop the price to 180
its still pricey but its got to be sorted today ....

had the pump off and looks fine tbh .. but not working so new one will be here in the next hour

and the disks im running atm is ebc grooved vented disks all round and yellow stuff pads as i got this all cheap as chips...

but no been made redundent im struggling with cheap parts lol

are yours vented n drilled as mine are ebc ones too which was on there, got told that yellow pads are not gd so iv put ferodo racing ones too,all round as got them cheap as 100 notes all in.... and fitting...so are u still saying it could be the pump thats making the whinning even if im not turning n just going strait ????? who doing all the work ? as im not that good with engines, im an shop fitter lol

lol ye im not to fused about the brake as the performance side of it i havent touched yet....
i made my own exhaust for the car and i have induction kit dv ready and remap in sept.
regards with the noise mine sounds like its in reverse then when turning is unbearable
i will do it my self usually if the job isnt to messy as the neighbours tend to moan alot lol

id still sort it tho mate even if it is quiet you never know what will happen
