Do you know what service interval your car is on? Vwg use different engine oil depending if the car is set to Longlife intervals (when the car tells you via message on the dash) or every 10k (Fixed intervals). Hopefully your service book will be stamped/marked to tell you which one you car is on?

Ian :)

It will tell you in your handbook. At a guess (and it's only a guess mind you) I'd say it's probably VW540/507 5W 30 full synthetic.

And just for info, Seat don't use the variable (longlife) service regime.

They don't? My apologies. Are they just on every 10k then?

I reckon service intervals would be longer than 10k if they did use fully synthetic oil though, looking at my previous service reciepts the main dealer only use part synthetic oil, cheaper for them I suppose!!

Use a different dealer mate. Should be full synthetic oil as far as I'm aware. Better still, do it yourself.

All servicing that was done before I bought the car on reciepts by stoke seat and barlows states semi synth, if I was to change with say mobil 1 which is a long life oil I wouldn't fancy dumping that after 10k at 50 quid a change (done at home)! 10k change is a money spinner by SEAT as when I queried it they were very vague saying it should be done give or take a K or so! My motor will be out of warranty in march and Seat's 10k oil servicing will go with it!!

Mine gets an oil change every 10k miles with Gulf VW504/507 and a filter, total cost is about £25. Shop carefully and servicing costs napp all. All filters and oil change cost me less than £60.

True, a decent motor trade counter halves the price of what you would pay from Halfords etc, I'll be using a fully synthetic 5w 30 when it is time, though the main idea behind a fully synthetic is longer service intervals, thus the reason my previous main dealer services have used semi knowing it will only be in for a max of 12 months.
