Which CAT-back exhaust system do folks recommend for an LCR:

  • Milltech
  • Magnex
  • Supersprint
  • Other?

I'm looking for a raspy sounding zorst, although not too rediculous. It should also add a little bit of power (not lose it!) and hopefully be lighter than the standard system. Also, please dont recommend CAT replacement etc, I don't have the money!

You'll be lucky to find any of those for under £300. Maybe try ebay I've seen a few blue flames on there recently. When I picked my car up I wasn't sure what exhaust it had and in the search for a LCR I always planned to buy a decent exhaust for it like a miltek, however I am surprised just how good my powerflow sounds. Alot of people that have followed me have also commented. I think with Powerflow you rely on the quality of the garage which makes your system luckily mine was good and they will make you anything you desire.

I'm looking for suggestions other than blueflame.

I want something tried and tested that people have had on their car for 6 months+. Every 2nd blueflame story on here has been about exhausts disintegrating after a few weeks.

Edit: Awesome GTI are advertising Milltek LCR Cat-back systems for £283.73

If it's any consolation I've got a Milltek on my car which only cost me £120, but that was only because someone decided to drive into the back of me and so his insurance paid the rest. :)

I know you want other suggestions than Blueflame but I've just had one fitted and it sounds amazing when you put your foot down and nice and subtle when you don't, I also know they have changed the design of the downpipe and the bracket on the cat so that should solve them from braking, and I don't have an engine management light on either, I know other people on here have had problems with that.

milltek is nicely built, but the tailpipe is an acquired taste. Subtle sound until its pushed then it opens is lungs a bit.

Not an massively beneficial mod unless youre just looking for a better soundtrack, as the DP is quite restrictive.

Out of the options so far:

  • Blueflame: I'm still not convinced of the quality.
  • Supersprint: Too expensive.
  • Magnex: Looks good, but does anyone actually have one?
  • Milltek: Seems good quality but the tail-pipe is ugly.
  • Powerflow: Looks interesting, but since the welding is done by the garage the quality must be highly variable.

I'm leaning towards the Magnex at the moment. Any recommendations for this? What's the quality and noise like? Also, any power gains?

Don't expect much, if anything, in terms of power gains from a cat-back system only. If you're lucky you'll see 1-2bhp more and an improvement in throttle response, but not much more in reality as that section of the exhaust isn't the most restrictive bit. If you want more power, then you need to be looking into a turbo back system with a sports cat, as the cat(s) and the down pipe are the two most restrictive sections.

Cat back exhaust is only going to provide a tiny power gain and a nicer look and sound.
