Hi

I've done a search, my manual doesn't say and the local shop doesn't know.....

Anyone tell me what brake fluid I need for my 2001 LC ?

Thanks

Hello matey,

I'd think from experience it would be normal DOT 4 !! somewhere like Halfords should stock this.

But having said that if you want to do a total fluid change I'd go for Halfords DOT 5.1, Which has a much higher boiling point than DOT 4, I've always used DOT5.1 for the last 10 years or more on all my car's & bikes without problems.

Hope this helps

Cheers CL

I use Motul RBF600.

It's DOT 4 and has an incredibly high boiling point. It's also easy to flush through your existing fluids.

It is also exceeds DOT5.1 standards.

Downside is it's expensive, £10 per 500ml bottle and you will need 3 to 4 bottles to fully flush the system.

Cheers for that.

Decided not to bleed my brakes myself so I took it with 1.5 Litres of fluid to my local garage. Got in it tonight after it has supposely been done (£30) and its bloody terrible. Pedal almost hits the floor. I can't believe the arseholes had the cheek to take the cash off of my missus. + They nicked my fluid.

Wrote them a stinky note and will leave it there again tomorrow. Hopefully the jokers will sort it out.

Out of interest, my throttle feels different. Can you adjust the plastic stopped under the pedal?

Motul RBF600 is £8.99+vat/500ml bottle.. comes within 5'C of Castrol SRF fluid but at a fraction of the cost.
As used by Badgerwagen and cured a previous boiling brake fluis issue. Been perfect since.
In stock with me usually also.

Have to totally agree with Bill, after watching him with "red hot discs" at Oulton Park this fluid is the dogs. Went straight home and did mine, very confidence inspiring on trackdays. As the man says its cheap as well!!!

i got some Motul RBF600 and some ferrodo pads

Took it to the garage to get it done and only the pads got done!
he said something about the brake fluid lasting for ages on the LCR and that its a different type so it would go all rubbery if you mixed them

I was in a rush so didn't question it,
Might have to get it done else where,
Is a fluid change quite hard to do then, how much am i expecting to pay a garage to do it?
