Hi all, am looking for suggestions for alloys and tyres to put on my 99 Mk2 tolly, but I dont want to lower it so need to fill the arches nicely.
So what suggestions do you have?
I have a buget of about £400.
Cheers, tatepie

i had this dilemma a little while ago albeit with a much tighter budget. personally i prefer the oem look but each to their own. it all depends whether ur willing to look at second hand wheels, because if ur wanting to fill the arches u need 18s n ur talking around 450 with tyres, but you could get a set of used ones for around 300 or even less. i settled on a set of 17'' leon cupra wheels which i paid 170 for 2nd hand, but i think a set of 18'' new style rs4s or leon cupra r wheels would look the mutts nuts. what colour is ur motor? because i think it makes a bit difference to what suits it

The tolly is silver, just had rear spoiler, skirts and front splitter painted and fitted and is starting to look good, but desperatly needs some wheels now. I keep looking on ebay but the 2nd hand ones go for nearly as much a snew ones for 18`s?!?!?!?
just wondered what would look best for the money.

I bought a set of secondhand 18's for my Tolly off Ebay for £150 inc tyres and delivery.

They were kerbed and cost about £100 to get sorted, but they were still good value.

Unfortunatley I cracked one last weekend, so I'm looking at possibly fitting some 19's.

With 225/40 18 tyres, the overall diameter and circumfrence were the same as the OEM wheels and tyres, so I think 19's should be ok.

I would suggest looking around on Ebay, or try any local car breakers. My local breakers had a set of 18" alloys and tyres for a Focus, and they wanted £260.

Mine had the Cupra 17's on it when I bought it, and they seem to suit the car quite nicely. One thought I had though, regardless of how big the wheels are, you still should be looking at maintaining the outside diameter to keep your speedo accurate. Which means you will still maintain the gap between the wheels and the arches. Or by 'filling the arches' do you mean more wheel than rubber?

I got some 18" leon ones off here on wednesday for £140, the only problem is in the add it said that all the tyres apart from one was ok, after getting them there is only one that is ok really and thats not the best. So had to buy two yesterday(not best happy) [:@] after the two tyres cost me more than the rims. Thats what you have to look out for mate.

might be looking to sell mine shortly if ur interested ;)

How much are you thinking of selling them for?

Just got a Cordoba 1.9 Tdi 130 and it's 15 in wheels are immaculate, would be nice to stick them in the garage if I could and put on a different set of wheels for now.

Also, as you are in the north east, do you know anybody with a VAGCom that can reprogramme keys. Fancy making a flip key to reduce chance of poking myself with the normal key.

im not sure yet all depends if i get another set of wheels, bidding on some lush tt ones at the moment, id probably take around 160 for them as they are, 2 tyres with loads of tread other 2 could do with replacing, or £260 and il get 2 brand new tyres put on.

as far as vag com goes i dont know anyone sorry, i need someone myself cos iv got a flip key and the original which the remotes wont program on either.

I fitted Jamex coilovers on the car just before fitting the wheels. Not sure what drop it is as i kept raising and lowering it till i felt it looked ok. I'm probably putting the standard suspension back on and selling the coilovers too due to the amount of speedbumps i'm now going over not only at home but at work aswell - it's like speedbump city

I've already put a hole in the sump of my previous V5 and that wasn't lowered so i don't want to go down that route again - it was a few years ago but the repair cost around the £200 mark.
