i need a new back window for my car since for some reason it has simply just shattered. ive bee quoted £115 including fitting. now i know this is a good price but i cant help wondering how much the glass alone would cost. if anyone knows where these guys would buy their glass from i would be much appreciative to know.

its a ibiza 2l 8v 2E engine 95 (N)

oh and dont use autoglass they quoted me £395!!! what a laugh!

Yep, autoglass wanted that too when mine shattered, they came to fit it and the holes for the spoiler did'nt line up then, so the price went up more for a genuine part - blah blah blah

A genuine part fitted at a maindealer cost much less than half the original autoglass qoute, so I told them to shove it when they wanted £500!

Are we talking about the rear screen or one of the rear side windows here? Quoted price actually sounds pretty good to me if it's for a rear screen, but it's a little on the steep side of going rate for a rear side glass. Note that a GTI usually has opening windows here, whereas lower spec models don't. The glass is totally different and they're not interchangeable. Fitting one of the opening windows is a doddle. I've never done the non-opening ones on an Ibiza, but they're an absolute tw@t to do on similar cars i've done them on in the past (various old VW's, various old F*rds - not mine).

You could try www.heatedwindscreens.co.uk as a glass supplier - they seem to be able to get hold of most things.

Oh, and be careful that you get the right tint...
