If you want a sub for sound quality and not loudness have a look at the Bose Mazda subs that fit in the spare wheel. They aren't plug and play so you need to be electrically aware to butcher the cables and find what's what. It should fit in a space saver but I can measure mine if you want.
I have one in my ibiza (full size alloy spare) and it sounds better than the Bose systems in Audi's. I have a Becker head unit and standard speakers.

Check out: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Bose-Sub-Woof...nment_GPS_Car_Speakers_PP?hash=item2a0529fba8

If you want a sub to vibrate parts off your car and sit in car parks annoying people, then this sub isn't for you :)

this may sound like a stupid question but when the sub is in use spare wheel were does the jack and bits go? i cant put a sub on the shelf cause i have to take it out too often. But it looks very neat.

You take it out and not carry a spare wheel.
You can try and do a custom build and put the sub into the recess that is on the passenger side of the boot (the area where the mesh basket is) You will prob need a sub that is not too deep for it to fit. I have seen a thread somewhere on the web for a MK5 Golf and I would assume that the Leon would be no different.

I did that in my Yaris, needed to put a load of dynamat down to stop vibrations and the fibre glass glue stinks, and the smeel doesnt go for weeks.

I found a couple of places that do this sort of stuff professionally.

http://www.fiberglassforums.com/ Loads of userful stuff on there :)

I'm not sure what the setup is like on the mk2 leon but in my ibiza the bose sub fits inside the spare alloy and I put the tools in a leather bag stuck to the floor with velcro

To the right of my boot are the tools in the bag. It's not fully sorted yet but you can see I have almost all my boot space
