When should the gear box oil be changed?

I've read various posts on recommendations for this but all say its only if you have a problem with it that it needs changed
But surely there is a recommendation for when it should be done?
It must have a life span
Also power steering fluid, some questions, when does it need changed?

i just had mine done with the cars 40k service (4th service)...i just got the same stuff put in, but i've read that the best is redline MT-90. Although it works out about £45 just for the oil!

Newer manual cars are supposed to have gear oils that should last the lifetime of the car. Unless you have water contamination in there but I'm guessing you would feel this with performance decrease of the gearbox.

Automatics/Tiptronics/CVT/IVT's and maybe some others do need oil changes.
