When in reverse sets off rear wiper?

This is a strange one - all of a sudden, when I put the car in reverse it sets off the rear wiper?

If I continue to leave it in reverse - it continues to go off every few seconds (like when you've pushed the wiper stalk)

Any ideas to whats going on?

Cheers

If u have ur front wipers on at all as soon as u put it in reverse the rear wiper does this to clear the screen for u to reverse.

Yep it's called the comfort rear wiper. If you have your front wipers on at all and select reverse the rear wiper also works. It's so that you can see out of the rear window whilst your reversing.

EDIT, Craig D beat me to it.

I thought I saw my rear wiper go while I was reversing the other day but because I hadn't switched it on, thought I must have imagined it.

Good to know I'm not losing it....... Just yet.

i know how you feel haha, i always thought it was because I knocked the stalk into the position for the rear wiper!

If you have the reain sensing wipers and the stalk is set on that then it will activate the rear wiper when you reverse. I have the same on my boc and rememeber when it first happened I though something was wrong hehehehe

It was actually a nice surprise for me as my previous car had the same feature and i thought it was a great idea.

I must admit that i havent noticed it just do it when the stalk is in the intermittent setting (i have the convenience pack as well) but it definitely does it if the front wipers sweep when in reverse.

Also, when you have the wipers on when driving, when you come to a stop they will auto switch to intermittent wipe, as soon as you pull away they will go back to constant wiping again.

When mine are on intermittent and I turn engine off they don't seem to restart, maybe it's about getting up to speed but I never remember to give it a full test. Anyone??
