when do I change timing belt?

:) You have a belt.Handbook says change at 80,000 mile.But the common consensus on here is change at 60,000 miles or 4 years (whichever comes first).
Changing the water pump at the same time(doesn't cost much) is a good idea.
SEAT will charge you about £300-£340 total for the work.
You could save a few quid at an independant,but not much in my experience.

lol i had mine changed at 60000 miles and Seat laughed at me and said its not due for another 20000....

i would rather be on teh safe side especially if its tuned

my local seat stealer said 60k or 4 yrs. had it done recently @60k & 5yrs by independant for about £240 ish.

i'd change it 20k miles early rather than it snap ;)
at work, the cambelt snapped on one of the pool cars, a Golf TDi, cost £2400 to put right

i changed it as soon as i bought my car, only had 36k miles on the clock but it was nearly 5 years old.
also worth changing the water pump, as its well known SEAT originally fitted units with plastic impellers which are prone to breaking :ban:, make sure the replacement has a metal impellor ;)
