I need to fit my upper strut brace and tried self tappers, but this wasn't overly successful!
I think the best idea is to bolt them, but this means I need to get to the underside of the wheel arch.

How do the liners come out, and how much room is there to get a grip on the nut to screw the bolt into from above?

Self-tappers didn't work in the thin sheet of your car? Amazing

I think most people use rivnuts / thinsheet Avdels which you pop into a hole of the correct size from above and then crimp using a special tool. This gives you a thread into which you can fit a bolt.
