Whats this pipe? (And why's it not connected!)

Hey folks, on my mission of replacing the majority of the hosing in the engine bay, I came across this;

It's hard to see (harder to take pic of, as my crap example shows) basically looking down one of the inlet holes there is a pipe coming out only about an inch or so long, but it's not connected to anything!

Either it's a blanking pipe of some sort? Or a pipes come loose...

Just wondered if anyone had any idea?

Hi mate, I've done the N249 bypass but thats about all i've personally done.

The brake servo hose has a plug in it (so it's had a boost gauge put in there before) but in terms of anything else im not sure?

It looks blanked off from what I could tell, but what is that blanking off? Some sort of sensor/gauge sender?

its hard to tell from your pic because its not clear. i can make out what the pic is though just not the pipe.

Not the big pipe mate, it's almost like a half a cigar type size, seems to be coming out about an inch.

Where the end of the red circle is, is pretty much the length of it.

Heres a pic of the full engine bay if it helps; (The Pipes there changed by me but not touched that one in the first pic)

that almost looks like the PCV valve that runs from under the inlet to there.

Go with your hand under the inlet and you'll feel a relatively small hose (think its 8mm) follow that and see if its plugged.

Originally it should run to a big rubber pipe that then T's into 2 directions.

Have a look at the "catch tank" thread of 12 pages. Think on page 3 tehre is some pictures, that look like the pipe you're pointing out.

But your car doesn;t have a catch tank so I'm puzzled

8mm Vacuum hosing mate. With 9.5mm - 12mm jubilee clips IIRC.

Reuvers> I think you are correct mate, by the looks of it one of the owners had a catch tank.

Many mysteries of the car, by the looks of it it had more stuff done to it, and was completely put back pretty much to stock.
(The inlet manifold gasket looks like its been sealed with liquid gasket) receipts for Miltek downpipe in owners book, yet thats not even on the car...

this the right stuff then mate?? what size is the normall vaccum pipes? soz for being a pain in th a*se!!

Thats correct mate, that will be fine 1m is more than enough you'll just need to cut a couple of small pieces off.

If your feeling adventurous do the whole lot of that area, I only did 2 of the pieces as you can see, as the other parts had those clips, and i'd had enough of removing them from the rest of the engine bay so didn't bother lol.

The vacuum pipes for the dump valve hosing, and many of the boost pipes around the N249 valve are either 3mm or 4mm depending, I prefer 3mm, harder to get on but a tighter fit, but it's completely fine to use either, my friend uses 4mm.

Yes that blanking plug is ment to there, its attached to a hard pipe that the engine coolant flows through (from the water pump to the heater matrix). Its just an additional outlet.
