A white Mitsi Evo 5.

This thing must have had some serious work done on it.
Flying down the A3 a few years ago (car was standard at the time) and I approach this Evo very quickly. Don't know why he was pootling in the outside lane but once he realised I was sitting up his chuff he decided to put his footdown. Bugger me, you should've seen this thing go. He shot off in the blink of an eye. I was caning the arse off mine and the distance he was leaving me was mind blowing. 500+bhp easy.

Not much in this car yet as ive grown up a tiny bit, when i had my calibra turbo i got completely wasted by an RX-7........didnt even see where he went!!

My mate had a golf MK2 gti with all the extras he could fit on and was made to look like he was standing still by a nova turbo.....that soon taught him a lesson.

Erm.... nothing ive raced hasnt BLOWN me away! ive raced some that had slight better accelerating in the hi-revs but not thrashed! my best challenge which i did beat eventually was a Vauxhall Zafira VXR lol well it is 240 BHP and had better handling at roundabouts. The funniest thing was a 4x4 beach buggie gave me a run for my money until about 30/40 mph lol was very very quick! the only thing i raced which has beaten me but not badly was a beamer but was a 3 litre summink

Back from the dead
Ferrari 360 on a dual carriageway between Bournemouth and Southampton absolutely pummeled me. Was so spectacularly embarassing I backed off so it didn't look like I was trying.

Other than that an Audi RS6 on the M6 toll which absolutely caned me away from the toll booths.

Surely there can't be that much shame in being blitzed by a ferrari or a lammy or something like that, cars that could cost as much as a house...??

Perhaps a more interesting title for the thread would be whats the WORST car you've been blown away by...

I'm sure I'd be blown away by lots of really crappy cars... but then I've just got an unmodded mk4 1.4 so i wouldn't even try to race anyway...?

Another thing I remember.........

In London on a stag do. A BMW M3 CSL and Ferrari of some description (can't remember what one) were level at a set of lights. Lights went green and both cars nailed it as the road merged into 1 lane further up. The M3 got the better of the Ferrari but hearing both of those going for it at full chat was unbelievable.

That must have been something. But perhaps the Ferrari driver was more scared of damaging his car than the M3 driver... more like a game of chicken really!! If the road didn't merge perhaps it would have been a different story.

I once overtook a ferrari in my old Fiesta 1.4. He was doddering along in the middle lane at 60mph... I felt really weird overtaking him as it didn't seem right, but perhaps the driver wasn't the owner of the car and was scared of damaging it. I know I would be!

Ok here's one for you.

Driving on some twisty backroads round Chertsey/Lightwater, heading home late one night.
Following a little Peugeot 106XN (1.4?) through these roads. Could I keep up? Could I f**k. He was gone. This thing was virtually on 2 wheels going round the corners.

He was probably lucky he didn't end up on his side... Perhaps he saw you in the mirror and thought he'd show you what his little old peug could do. Sometimes people in older cars think they have something to prove about them. Lots of times they're actually faster than they look due to less safety features and therefore less weight to lug about. He must have been pretty close to rolling it though, I'm sure the Ibiza's handling is really one of the better of the modern small cars and perhaps once he started he couldn't back down and it was a matter of nerve!

Othertimes I guess it's not what you drive it's the way you drive it though. Once in my old Fiesta I was in the mood for overtaking on the country roads on the way to Dorset and I was followed by this Alfa Romeo, not sure what model but it looked sporty in my mirror possibly a spider. I was over taking everything but only when it was safe to do so.

I think the Alfa wanted to prove he could pass me but he never did. One advantage of being a motorcyclist is that it teaches you how to overtake... obviously on the bike the acceleration is far in excess of my car but the principles are the same and as soon as an opportunity arose I was inthe right gear already accelerating into the gap I'd created then past, no hanging about. Thats how I made so much progress. Plus the Fiesta was faster than it looked. I probably wouldn't be able to do quite the same in the Ibiza.

Nah, the Ibiza's handling leaves a lot to be desired. They don't inspire much confidence to really push on. Those Pug's, though.......**** to a blanket. Lots of body roll but it never looked as if he was on the verge of losing it. He definitely knew how to drive it and it's limits. I'm crap at driving. I've got no bottle at all unless the roads completely straight with very little, if any traffic.

hmm interesting. and lol @ Nicks ibiza at the top!

my mates stripped out caged 280bhp 2.0 turbo nova. i have him to about 80mph everytime cus he can't get traction, then he trashes me. it's unreal how quick that thing is.

M3 CSL

had a chat with him and we had about 5 or 6 runs against each other from different speeds in different gears for a good comparison. side by side from 40mph everytime and the thing i instantly noticed, was how responsive this thing was. he was doing a 3,2,1, countdown before we booted it, and i was having to boot it on 2 everytime to give my turbo time to spool up and get going otherwise he would leave me! cheated a bit there :D anyway, i found that i could hang on next to him in any gear form 40mph, but as soon as the time came to change gear he would be instantly back on the power and keep on pulling. i.e if i had it in 2nd at 40mph, by 70mph when i had to change gear, he would start pulling. but if i left it in 3rd at 40mph, i could stay next to him till about 90-100mph cus i was holding boost. then he would pull. really impressed me how fast it was, and it really r*aped me from a constant drag from 40mph to 150mph. just pulled spectaculalry on gear changes. instant power.

his mate was there aswell in his import ferrari 355. had a couple of goes against that, and you would be surprised how long it takes the ferrari to put ground on the ibiza when i catch him with my boost. i was boosting hard and he had to scream his ferrari into the redline, match my speed, then pull away, and everytime he was really struggling from 30-40mph in gear upto speeds of about 90mph. but don't get me wrong. the thing battered me in a long drag race. but if i got the jump on him he was struggling at first.

Better to be like that than drive like an idiot to prove a point to someone in a saxo etc.

I know im similar to you;)

I used to be beaten by most stuff from the lights as the traction was pretty poor in the LCR from standing start. It was better on the move, but I never really raced anything.

I dont think anything has got in front of me when I have been in the 928, as it is an auto I just press the loud button and be very careful in the wet, very very careful in fact. It is 17 years old and I don't know really how it compares with modern cars, but it is still pretty quick.

This is true, too many people drive like idiots and end up in a heap trying to prove a point. It's sometimes tempting, especially if the other driver has pissed you off by cutting you up or something but the "red mist" is dangerous. Who cares anyway. After all it'd only be a temporary victory and then you might suddenly realise how dangerously you'd been driving and feel like an idiot anyway. I know I have done that before, and I'm not normally tempted to race.

Sometimes I get people revving next to me at lights because they see the ibiza and think I might want a race, however I just think that if they had a half-decent car they'd beat me anyway and wouldn't need all the revving so I don't bother I just drive smoothly away. Half the time for all their revving they end up making a crap getaway anyway so I beat them away, I don't care if they then come screaming past me.

Dont get me wrong I enjoy a blast every now and again. But only when its safe to do so, I.e long straights, in good weather. Not on windy country lanes or built up areas.

I value my license and car too much
