Just wondering what sort of alarm our cars come with...given the i have yet to hear mine...and was wondering how sensitive it is(ie: whats needed to set it off)
thanks
and again it may sound like a stupid question but it's hard when your manual is in a foreign language...

Have you got motion sensers, if yes then leave your window down, lock your car then stick your head/hand in and move it about, the motion sensers (if fitted) will pick up movement then set off the alarm.

I found out myself with a air freshener hanging from the rear-view mirror - took a while to sus out what was setting off the alarm

I think you are right, the alarm could (should) be louder, I could only just hear it while in a shop

alarms

if you have the motion sensor type you can disable buy pressing a button on pillar between drivers door and back door thus leaving a child or pet in car, but still locked ,but i dont mean for hours of course

Deadlock the car... ie press the button twice - locks the car but de-activates the motion sensors

I don't think thats right Slim, you can't de-activate the motion sensors from the key fob, thats what the button behind the drivers seat on the door pillar is for.

Unless of course this is one of those things vag-com can be used to customise.

pressing the button twice deactivates the deadlocks
to deactivate the motion sensors you have to use the button mentionned

auntie has an audi which she thght had no alarm, quick test, unlock with key open door if you dont start within 15 seconds alarm goes off and lights flash

On my Tolly, the alarm just pulses the horn..

Not very loud, but you can certainly hear it inside the house.

Some times it goes off when something large'ish passes my house !!

If I leave the dog in the car - press the key fob button once - red light (door pin) flashes - walk away then moments later the alarm goes off but if I press the key fob button twice the red flashes once but the alarm does NOT go off, either the dog remains incredibly still (scared by the alarm going off the first time!!) or the motion sensors have been de-activated.

That's because the 2nd press disables the alarm completely. I'd use the motion sensor button as mentioned above as you'd still want an alarm to protect the doors or maybe not dependiong on how vicious the dog looks :)

You can use VAG-COM to deactivate the motion sensors. In fact, many people have found them to be deactivated already by default!

can use VAGCOM to get it to beep when you lock
wish someone near me had it to do it on mine, sometimes hard to know if its locked and you press it twice to know

Yup, can also change it to one-press unlocking, so all doors open with one click. Did this myself on Friday actually.
