when the pipe arrives for my FMIC i plan to fit a filter where the old IC was but what size pipe to use? i have a load of 2.5 " for the IC but is this big enough for the MAF to filter? also the carbonio's and the other chrome cold air filters, does anyone know the size of these and if they would supply enough air. Ive also read that the dynatwist with the cover off supplys more air, so the standard feed pipe is not good enough when its on??

does anyone have any ideas on what to use and what sizes flow the best, as Bill says bigger is not aways better.

Well you could spen a long time and a lot of money on various solutions and logging with VAGCOM to find the ultimate intake.

My best guess would be XXL Dynatwist, relocate the battery, 80mm duct and and a scoop like this.

But that's my opinion

relocating the battery
i was going to relocate the batt a bit ogo , i have the cable on just not connected, doesn the link between altonator and battery have to be as close as possable though, i was told ? maybe wrong info. what size feed 3 "?

You can get a 4" flexi through without moving the battery Rick. :cartman: A 'reservoir' of air for the filter to suck from!

nice, it goes straight down to the fog light area? not squashed or anything?, mine will have to be smaller as ill have return IC pipe there too.

As I said even with bumper off they couldn't find a route on my car (with FMIC fitted) to bumper level for an 80mm pipe.

My battery is moved accross about 30mm on some brackets from Feel giving me extra room, not a great pic but the battery has been moved left in the engine bay.

"he's my biggest customer"

80mm is a "funny" size to get, as AFAIK is not a standard size. 3.5" Ally is not that much bigger on the OD than the 80mm flexi, but obviously it's hard and doesn't "squish". If you're joining it with silicon elbows, obviously they are bigger diameter again, but well placed you might manage it.

You might be better off going down a size to 3", which isn't that much smaller than 80mm and since it's smooth on the inside you could argue it'll flow as well as an 80mm flexi.

Actually, I've got a bit of each in the garage.

3.5"(88.9mm) on the left, spare bit of green cold air feed and 3" (76.2mm) on the right.

I read some research somewhere that 80mm flexi flows about the same as 70mm smooth, so 75mm smooth probably would work better. :cartman:

I still think it's got to be restrictive if it's less than the MAF & TIP ID.
