What should I do with this ICE?

A few years ago I upgraded the ICE in a family members MGF with a new head unit, auto changer and components. They are now in the process of trading it in for an SLK so I quickly whipped the kit out and replaced it with the standard stuff. As a result I have been offered to have it for free to fit in my ’04 LCR or they’ll sell it.

So my questions is, will the following kit fit in my car, will it be relatively easy, and will it be better than the standard stuff, ie. is it worth bothering!

Pioneer DEH-P6400R Head Unit

Pioneer CDX-P670 Autochanger

Rockford Fosgate FNP261 Component speakers

I chose these items for the specific application of fitting in the MGF but I hasten to add that I didn’t really know what I was doing, so the choice may not have been a particularly good one, but then again it may have been pretty good - not really sure?

Are there any pitfalls I should look out for, or suggestions you can make?

I believe that the 6.5” speakers will fit but not sure what to do about the single DIN HU, that be a search required then!!

It all fits then – excellent!

Will I be able to fit the Pioneer autochanger in the glovebox where the SEAT standard one is?

To fit the single Din Headunit I’ll be needing a facia adapter, any idea where to get one from? Autoleads seems to be one make but according to there website the nearest dealer isn’t exactly close. Are there any other makes which match the look of the standard dash plastic?

And finally, will these speakers be any better than the SEAT standard ones? No point changing them if it’s not going to make a difference. Do I need to add anything before fitting the speakers once I have drilled out the old ones, eg. some sort of adapter ring?

Not sure about the Pioneer changer, it will probably fit with some minor modding.

Autoleads do the best match IMO, any Halfords can get one if you're stuck. Should be about £12.

You will need either adapter rings ( autoleads ones for a Mk4 golf ) or use some MDF rings. I'm sure they will be better than the standard rubbish.

also get the speaker adapter rings that come with the wires as it makes it much much easier to fit the speakers as you just attatch the wires of the adapter to the speakers and the other end clips into the standard speaker plug :)

Except plastic is thin and cheap and doesn't make a good mount for a speaker, if you're going to go to the bother of taking doorskins off, you'd be as well making up some MDF spacers and using those - for the extra time it will take, it will be worth it for the sound quality :)
