What on earth is this?

Found this rubbery plastic type screw bung thing. It was black and had VW written on it and was loose kicking around in my engine bay.

Excuse the drawing iv mislaid the actual thing

it was lodged in near the clutch bleed valve, anyone know what it is and if its important?

nah its bigger than that, its about an inch and a half long

Looks like a bung thing that goes in the top of the gearbox. I randomnly found mine loosely rolling round inside the engine bay too.

mines sittin in the centre console God knows where its meant to go apparently it goes in the top of the gearbox but its not inportant???????? so my freinds at the RAC tell me..........had it check by them as i work for um

its to release the BS coming from this thread
surely its to stop something entering or leaving the box?or to plug a hole that isn't used by SEAT,but is by other VAG applications(sender of some kind),theres bound to be a hole in the box somewhere,that needs its bung back

I think I was told that it was to plug a hole used for diagnosing something or other. It's a quite a rubbery bung that doesn't fit very securely.

like i said one of the mechanics at our place had a look for me and said it was nought to worry about so i took his word for it,maybe on other vag cars it maybe needed but he just said its nothin to concern meself with if it was needed to bung up an important whole it should fit tighter than they do.
