What Gearbox do I have?

Just finished sorting the pedal box, it's taken a while but there was no real rush with it.

Engine fires up lovely, and off we go for a 'Burt Monroe' round the village (see The World's Fastest Indian for those who don't understand.

Anway, 1st gear into 2nd into 3rd, revs rise as the clutch slips.....

It appears that being stood for so long has been the death of it.

Right, so, the question is, what type of gearbox do i have on my 2.0L 8v (AGG engine code)? Is it an 020, or an 02A?

Thanks Jonny.

On a similar topic, well connected anyway....

The gear knob has lost it's springy-ness! It's ability to return to the very centre when in neutral. Anyone got any ideas on this? Tis a new one to me.

Is it part of the gear selection rods that's at fault?

thats internal to the gearbox, nothing engine bay/gearstick side that does that. which is bad news :(

though this isnt a common problem, and i suspect you would have other issues if box was knackered enough to cause this! are you sure its not just a knackered/sloppy linkage problem?

Well, gotta check through the clutch issue, so i expect will go through the linkage at the same time - gotta disconnect to remove box etc.

A couple of garage/techie type people i've spoken to say the springy-ness comes from the linkage as oppossed to the internals of the box, but time will tell
