what engine code do i have?

I've read a lot of threads on here and there are lots of different engine codes talked about (i.e. AUQ, etc). I was wondering if someone could tell me how to find this out for my car. Is it stamped somewhere or does it depend on the cars age?

Its a 2001 (x reg) 1.8 Cupra if that helps?

It's my birthday soon and i'm getting some money to spend on it (probably about £100), what would i be best to spend my money wisely on and what potential gains would i be likely to make?

I'm thinking of changing the filter to a pipercross element but leaving it in the air box (of course after spending some time smoothing it), maybe a forge 007 or bailey dv30 and replacing all of the VAC hoses for good measure as its getting on in age now. Maybe if i've enough funds a boost gauge as well.

More mods are planned for the summer, replacing all coolant and boost hoses for silicone ones, new larger air feed, maybe universal fmic and re-map

Look on the service book it should say or on the sticker by the spare wheel i think it is too.

Mines the AUQ 180 ps which is about 177 bhp.

Filter wise, get a green one from badger in the sponsors section :)

can't look in the service book as the garage i bought it from doesn't have it. He bought the car from a lease company and they haven't sent it to him yet (a likely story :) )

I'll take a look in the spare wheel well for the code. I'll also look at badger's website, i've read a few threads about different filters and shether its better to have induction kit rather than filter in box and came to the conclusion that as the induction kits costs so much for not much more gain (if any) over the filter in the box, i'll get a filter for my air box. Are green better than pipercross or is it just your preference, they are about the same price i think.

I'll try to get some pics soon when the weathers better and i've had time to give it a good wash and polish.

ok thanks for the quick replies. I need to spend some time under the bonnet when i replace all the VAC hoses for nice new yellow ones to match the paintwork so i'll be taking the engine cover off (and it will probably stay off).

Oh yes, when replacing the vac hoses, do you need to clamp them down with clips or are cable ties sufficient? if i need to buy some clips then i guess i'll have to make a visit to a local auto parts shop to get a load of them.

only place i tie is the tiny hose of the top of the dv ... everything else jubilee clips or better still replace the original seat ones if you have the correct tool. cant see ties being strong enough and difficult to tighten if you have a leak. especially around turbo as they would melt/weaken due to heat
