Am I right in thinking the air con wont be on unless the temp is low too? As I always have the ECON off no matter what temp the heater is at.

took me a while to find this one out... think someone's explanation of it to me was that basically "ECON" is like how the heater would be in an older car, cooling using the air outside and warming using the engine heat. It means you're not using the aircon unit and potentially improving your fuel economy.

So having it on is better than not? Sure I was told not to have it on by someone?

Yes I agree you should always leave the AC turned on, otherwise the system may become clogged up and that can be expensive to fix. I don't think there is a notable MPG difference.

They changed the labelling sometime in 2007/ 2008 as newer Leons don't have an ECON button and instead its an AC button.

Define better? You'll notice no real difference to MPG either way. I'd say its better to always have ECON off, so that the aircon pump is constantly lubricated

Is that the case? I know on older cars the quoted mpg was affected by 5 or so mpg by having the aircon on.

Haha! Yes after researching it seems the "poverty unit" has always just had an AC button regardless of year ... but they did change the labelling on the facelift climate unit to say AC:

I got confused because on the Golf MK5 they used to have an ECON button on the manual unit up until sometime in 2007 when it changed to AC.
