Hi Guys,

New to the forum and wanting to buy a mark 2, like the idea of a polo having a 2.0ltr lump!!!! 150 horses and paying little to nothing for one. I have seen this car and seeing it tomorow but want to check what to look for, common faults etc?

So any tips? Loads of stuff on this forum is handy but a quick glance, from what it reads like seems pretty good, but just want a experts eye to see if I need to check anything that doesn't jump out?

Anyways, will be joining the gang soon I hope!!! ;) Will let you know...

Just found out I cant put a link on this without posting 15 times, well if someone can look its advertised on ebay as 1997 SEAT IBIZA GTI 16V BROWN (i think its the burnt orange they mean!) it has round headlights. There are others there but they look like they have been ragged and messed about with, this looks pretty clean.:D

PS: whats insurance like for these? I got a quote for 400 quid and it aint to bad considering the car and i'm 25.:funk:

I've been in the 16v camp in the past, great car and engine if its not high miles and your not going to lamp huge milages on to it.

Check:
Rust on rear arches
Chips in headlights (morrettes are like rocking horse poo)
Clutch mechanism, makesure its smooth and flows well, be warned they are heavy!
ABS works, sensors while cheap do tend to play up.
Body work, make sure all trim is present and correct.
Drivers seat bolster can wear
FULL SERVICE HISTORY - these cars need to be pampered or your going to pay out in a big way in the future.

Yeah will do, I can see a couple of tyres on pics etc and they look pretty chunky which kinda follows what he's saying. Apart from the odd mark which is pretty is to get done I think it looks good. Cant wait to see what its like and take it for a spin. Ive seen some REAL dogs advertised and went to see one and walked away it was that bad!

Well its got a little bubble which is on photos, and the lights look igood in pics. seats also look good from pics but will double check. He has emailed and said his mate serviced it and he had the service indicator reprogammed by him so it came on every 6k which kinda hints to being looked after. I've check and the standard service is 8k or 10k I think. But will see tomorrow. Any thoughts though on what its said in advert? Does it look good?

Talking of buying he has a buy now price but he said the reserve is at 1100 which I said I could pay cash tomorrow if its any good. So do you think thats a reasonable price based on the limited info I know...

Bloody typical, went to see the car and he had sold it to someone else who got there before me. Phoned me back, they went and pulled out and has relisted again. So will have to wait until this auction is over. Anyway its back on ebay again I searched SEAT Ibiza GTi and it was on the second page. Had a good look at it and it was spot on, very smart and he took me out in it to show what it was like. Just said to stay in contact as someone had messed him about on ebay and didn't want it happening again (understandable). So due to work cant go and get it but its smart. Will bid what I was going to offer at end of auction and see what happens.

Wicked and bad!!!

This is the car:

Item number: 260367720982

You will need to get rid of the hideous rear lexus style lights and put the originals back on. The scuff marks aren't too bad, could get them sorted for a couple fo hundred ££'s.

Other than that, car looks tidy. Looks like it has a magnex back box and you got the recaro seats.

If i was looking for a 16v id go for it.

Well, I had a mechanic look at the car when I went to see it, she needs the exhaust welding up on a joint, nothing major, the paint was pretty good and I can get that sorted, the odd stone chip but should be cool. All interior is very clean, needs new matts but thats nothing.

The lights actually look good, so I would probably keep them as they go ok I think, but I suppose thats a taste thing. The blue car looks great but it has been too moded for me, I like the idea this hasn't been messed with other than standard things like exhuast and cosmetic stuff. The blue car is a bit too much with work done on engine lowered etc which means its been rag'd about. Locks messing up and crack windows etc...doesn't add up to a possible car which would be any good, at least this one, the blokes misses WAS actually bulgling pregnant and he rolled up in a nice car so aren't the type to be going around adding this stuff to a small run around for her. So fingers crossed again, as long as I dont get out bid...I will be back in here with pics etc...new wheels and HIDs to start I recon. £1100 is cheap for one in this condition so I've bid and will see what happens.
