Hi guys,

Made an account here to get some more informed opinions. Used to own a Mk1 Cupra R years ago when they first came out before writing it off in spectacular fashion.

I‘m sure some of you have already seen it but, what do you reckon on this? Seems quite pricey but has only done 60k miles so... fair enough?

I really want one of these again so just looking to get some guidance from you seasoned veterans.

Cheers,
Stu W.

Thats probably the most expensive example ive seen by a long shot, thats all i can say lol. 65k is good but i got mine at 95k and have had no running issues.

its a nice example is that, but i honestly think unless you are a collector and its going into storage you would loose a tonne of money on it, majority of these cars are now owned by enthusiasts so in a sense really are looked after well despite the milage.

Thats a mad price!
If youve got plenty of cash to splash, id be looking at spending 5 to 6k max.

I’d sell mine for 9
Everything on mine is new.
LSD, Turbo, suspension, all sensors, clutch fly wheel. Exhaust etc etc.
Ps not selling

Mad price. He’s bonkers.
Plenty out there that are either really well maintained and have lots of upgrades or cheap enough that you can renew most parts and still have a 4-6 grand investment all in.

Thanks for the replies chaps. 1st thought was that it was a steep price but wasn’t sure because I’ve not got a clue about the market for these things nowadays. Looks really clean though. Might put a cheeky offer in and see what happens!

Anyone know of any Cupras for sale that they can recommend? Or can put in a good word about the seller etc?

Nice one. Sent a couple of messages to the owners of those. Especially the red one. Looks a cracker.

Still nervous about the reliability and upkeep with these. Is there anything that I should be looking out for? For instance, I bought a 2008 BMW 320d with the N47 engine with 85k miles on it about 4 years ago and it’s been a literal money pit. Way more than the cars worth... Just curious what these Mk1 Cupra’s are like?

Cheers! ?

Engines are strong as is the turbo if not abused.
Sensors etc have a lifespan so do need replacing here and there.
Rear calipers prone to stick but are 45 quid new.
Door seals are a weak point and you get wet carpets when they fail.
Door locking mechanism not the best. Check all doors unlock at push of the fob.
eBay specials will do the job for a few years. Oem are really expensive versions.
There’s a 2 speed fan system and the low speed fan can have problems sometimes.
Tbh most are minor irritations rather than nightmares.
Check brake discs have some life left pads too.
Expensive to have to change strait away.
