What can I do about my cloudy headlights?

Hi there forum,

I have a Mark III facelift Leon 1.8 FR.
The headlights outer lens/plastic have become cloudy perhaps due to being in the sun too much.
Obviously replacing them is a major expense - around 1000 pounds per light.
I've tried polishing the outside but it seems the damage is on the inside of the plastic so it doesn't make any difference.
Does anyone have any ideas? Can the plastic only be replaced?

Thanks!

Try a headlight polishing kit, buy only ones that come with a UV coating to put on at the end, otherwise your headlights will get cloudy again.
It's just a matter of wet sanding from low grit to high grit, polish at the end, and UV protectant lastly. Takes maybe an hour or two to do.
Safest way to not scratch/buff out your paint around your headlights is to take the bumper off and headlights off separately. Tape around the headlights has failed me badly (don't ask me how I know).

Are you sure that's on the inside? It doesn't look like it is. I've never seen the inside of the lights go like that. Wipe the light with a damp cloth. If the marks disappear when wet, it's on the outside.

I'm sure it's on the inside. Does anyone have experience of changing the lenses? Is that even possible? I thought it is a "sealed unit"...
