i currently drive an pre facelift cupra on a 02 plate. my missus has a 1.1 m reg punto that has seen better days but still worksand has a full mot.

I want a cupra r that is as new as possible and she wants a new shape beeza, just have to be 5 door and small engine cos she has only been driving a year and we have alittle un.

i can allow up to 10,000 pounds cash.

the question is, does anyone reckon i stand a chance of getting both of these cars from a stealer ,with them accepting my cupra as part ex?

i know i could go down the private selling of my car to get a bit more cash, but i really hate the idea of having to have tyre kickers coming and pawing my car.

i know it is a bit of how long is a bit of string , but hey shoot me.!!

any advice ,ideas, pisstakes greatly appreciated!!

it really depends on the cars you are buying in terms of age/mileage. i would always go for a slightly lower mileage/older car than a higher mileage/newer car.

10k plus part ex....the stealer would be rubbing his hands with glee, i reckon you could easily do a deal as long as your flexible and realistic about what you're gonna get!

Your Cupra is probably worth £5k, depending on mileage, condition, service history etc. So that gives you a maximum total of £15k for both cars, assuming you can get that sort of price from the dealer.

An LCR with sensible mileage will cost around £9+ for an 03 plate, rising to around £12k for a 54 plate and more still for newer. So that leaves somewhere between £3k and 6k for the second car.

So yes, it should be possible for sure :)

Best thing to do is start looking for LCR's and also get a couple of valuations on your car. Once you know what sort of LCR is in your price range and what you'll get for yours, you'll know what - if any - challenge you face.

If it's easily affordable, don't tell the dealer you have £10k cash. Tell them you have less. Then tell the dealer you want *those two cars* and you have £X plus your car to spend and that's the absolute limit you can go to.
Say for instance you get offered £5k for yours and you find an Ibiza for £4k and an LCR for £10k, tell the dealer you have £7.5k cash tops - plus your car, of course - and you cannot go any higher. If they start to bring the price down but say you need to put more money in, don't just say 'oh ok then' but make out that you really would find that hard, which is a shame as you really, really want these cars if only they would do you a deal.

You know full well you'll pay the asking price, but they really don't need to know that. They wont let two sales walk out of the door without doing all they can to get your business.

Another little trick is telling the dealer you've seen another couple of cars that are cheaper for similar age, mileage and condition. Make them think they actually have to work for this deal. They might not bring the cost down, but they might improve on things like how much tax the cars have, the warranty, any extras etc etc.

Don't be afraid to be a total coont and really push hard. Make the salesman cry if you have to. If he wants your money, make him work :D

you sound like you have done this before :)

Iwilll have to try but unfortunately , when it comes to cars and me buying a new one, i am like a child in a sweet shop.

The salesman will know im gagging to get a lcr for sure,

but i will try my hardest......... as the rewards will be great i hope !!

I have... I saved my mate £6k on finance (£100 a month over 5 years) by doing the haggling for him. Granted, we were in AutoPlanet for 6 hours and a part of it was the fact that their website was shite and inaccurate, but that's still a lot of money!

Plus I managed to get my LCR price down by nearly £2k and my Mrs' Puma down by a grand with extra warranty thrown in :)

You just have to be firm, but recognise when you're not going to get any further.

When I bought my Leon FR, I quoted a part ex price for my old Pug I had been given 6 months previously, which was around £800 more than "top book" at the time. After matching that, I haggled for a few hundred off the list price of the FR. Then, after a bit of "umming and arring" he threw in metallic paint, which I think was around £350 worth. After a bit more dithering, I said "well, you've certainly given me something to think about. I'll be in touch..." and got up ready to walk out. At this point, he asked if I wanted a cup of coffee while I thought about it, and he asked what else he could do to make a deal there & then! I said I wanted a set of carpet mats & a full tank of petrol (almost £100 worth!!) and then the deal was done! :D Oh, I got 0% finance with the deal as well :p

Also, it's best to go towards the end of the month too, as they have targets to meet. Their bonus for meeting their targets is worth more than the commission they get on a sale ;)

That's a very good point. Better still, if you can, wait until August or September as they will be flooded with cars brought in for part exchange with new cars on the new number plates.

would i be right in saying that as the new cupra is now out, dealers might be more keen to shift the cupra r's lying around? or is that just wishfull thinking?

Wishful thinking I think, they still have quite a following and the soft looks of the Mk2 Cupra has left a fair few people disappointed with the fact it hasn't got the visual impact of the LCR.

absolutely! couldnt agree more with that rob! more to the point, they will be trying to offload a few cars to clear some forecourt space for the new plate models.

in your position you may find it a little tricky to find the right deal because you're looking for 2 cars rather than one....on the other hand....if you go for a 1.2 beeza there should be plenty around and cheap as chips too! ;)

i think the trick is to be VERY picky, look for exactly the right cars and when you find them.....bargain like a b*****d!

tbh, the ideal beeze my missus wants is a 5 door 1.2. she aint no petrol head and strangely thinks of things like cheap tax, insurance and running costs when she picks a car.
Then i get an animal car and blow her savings out of the water !!!

brilliant!
