Guys ive been doing some reading through the forum but havent found a clear answer.

My leon drivers side front and rear carpets are piss wet through, i spent 3 hours drying it out then within a day they were wet through again, when i open the car door in the morning water comes out and the skirt bit is wet through, the very front of the drivers side carpet isnt wet where the pedals are, only after the rubber bit.

Seat said its a seal/anti theft seal but they want £300 to do all 4 !? Said its a common issue.

Also the windscreen is wet nevermind damp, gotta wipe it down with a towel before attempting to demist.

Help :(.

266 posts on here and you dont know what this is..?

Seat are right, its likely to be the door seals, loads of info on here.
The seal that has failed is the seal between carrier panel and door. (remove the door trim and you see a large panel that holds the speakers, window motor etc. this has a spongy type of seal running around it. This fails).
When it rains the water should run down windows, through inside of door and then drain via holes at the bottom of the door.
Instead the water is passion through this seal, leaking down inside of door then running over the sill onto the carpet. (thus you get puddles on sill)

Your probably thinking no way, and you wouldnt be the first. - i took some convincing..

Reason seat quote so much is they probably want an 45 mins per door and at £100 an hour.... plus seal..

Just had a word with an autoelectrician friend of my dads hes said exactly the same thing !.

Although when we tested it water was draining out of the drain holes..obviously some isnt draining and is passing through the sponge. Should i replaced this sponge..if so any idea how much they are ? Or just silicone it or some other form of prevention.

Cheers.

EDIT - You just posted before me saying dont use sealant :(.

Another edit, just read through the majority of that thread you posted, cheers andy that will sort it :) (p.s nice name)

What do you mean by seal cord ?

seal cord is the description for the product that people get from seat vw etc and use to replace the foam seal.

It seams that the foam seal is infact designed as a seal to prevent sounds and vibration issues. These were used on doors that has pvc type sheets fitted to the inside to prevent water running down the inside of the carrier panels, and so was not designed to be water tight.
sadly Seat doors, some golfs and some audis had the doors designed without the pvc sheets and so then the seal needed to be watertight. Seems it was good enough to be water tight initially and during testing, but overtime perishes.

Think you will find that the part numbers needed are:
AKD 497 010 04R10 which is a rubbery type or cord. and is called cord seal. It is quite fat and sqwishy. about £25

alternatively, it seems that VW have a similair product, but not so fat.
AKL 450 005 05 - although im not aware of anyone using this so it untested. But is a bit cheaper at about £16.

( i have taken this info from post #166 of the thread http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=44216)

I did some door seals when it was very hot a few months ago, as everything was lovely and dry, the seal was too sticky to handle or remove thte anti stick paper.. - so i put it in the fridge for a while which worked a treat. If you are doing it in this weather you shouldnt have nay issues, but you should make sure surfaces are clean of water and dirt.
