weird wizzing noise

this is totally new for me, never heard or read of it before.
noticed it the other night - from around 2.2k revs - 2.5k revs the engine makes this weird hissing sort of noise, like a wizzing (good description words!)

it seems to only be around the 2-3k rev range, now i know i have a hole in my exhaust , or a few now maybe.

just wondering if this might just be gasses escaping the pipes?
its not annoying, just weird and wonder if anyone can clarify (i do have a new exhaust system, but its a stainless, and i have a few things to touch up on my car before i go and get anything louder than standard on.

cheers!;)

i know what it could be!?
if you have an induction kit cant tell if yours is gti or not, but on my 1.4, the induction kit meant there was a loose hose from the engine, usually it would suck at around that rev range, in order to open a valve to feed the engine, air from the manifold, never knew why it did it but it does...

anyway, the induction kit i fitted meant that hose was useless, and so it still sucks at that rev range (hissing noise) and then the induction roar kicks in and it cant be heard...

Like Ibiza 95 just said if you have an induction kit the noise could be from that. On mine I have an odd wizzing noise since I fitted the induction kit.

Could also me early signs of your water or power steering pump on the way out, have you had your cam belt changed recently? Because usually after they tighten the belt up the bearings on the water pump don't like it and give in, I had to change the water pump about 2 months after my service.

(anyone's welcome to correct me if I’m wrong about the water pump)

theres a piperx induction kit on it at the moment but will be taken off soon when i replace my exhaust.
i fooking hope theres no need for any cambelt changes in the near future, cars only just turned over 30,000 miles !

cheers.
