Weird Rev Issue..

Hi all,

I have a strange high rev idle issue but it only happens sometimes...

Say for example ive been for a drive and come back, parked up, if i start my car up again within say 10mins sometimes my revs start idling at just over 2000 rpm.

If I turn the car off and back on, its fine...

Whats that all about...? anyone got any ideas..?

Hey dude,

EXACTLY same as mines doing mine mate! check out my thread at the top (IDLE PROBLEMS - LCR)

Turns out its a temp sensor, got a new one today, will update my thread once its fitted.

Its been happening for the lat two weeks now, start n go, its fine! then, stop somewhere, switch back on and bang, shoots up to 2k revs, mine went to 2.5k today and just sat there!!

temp sensor playing up and it makes car overfuel, so if you rev it whilst its doing that its really lumpy.

alrite mate, ive just changed my engine coolant temp sensor, the 1 with the green 4pin plug yea?

Yea i just changed it lastweek. Could my throttle need cleanining? All that build up with carbon...?

Hiya guys

Sorry to be a pain, Mine does exactly the same as yours will idle at about 2000rpm then die off to normal however, mine kangaroo hops for a while after unless you keep revs up and also its starting to nearly die when idling and setting off slowly? Is this what yours does?
I have changed the MAF but this hasnt worked let me know how you get on with the temp sensor.

The thing is mate mine only does it rarely so its hard to tell, but when it does it sits at just over 2000 rpm.

ive changed the coolant temp sensor (very easy to do, cost me £25 for the part)

Im going to give my throttle body a good clean with carb cleaner on weekend just for good measure, and see how i get on..

Yours sounds like the coolant temp sensor, just give it a change, there known for going anyway.

i really wouldnt bother with the TB. When i cleaned mine at 68k yeah it was dirty but nothing that looked like it would make the butterfly stick/decrease flow

The car does definitely seem back to normal

Gavla, the car did this to the wife, but it actually did die out on her on a dual carriageway!! but when the breakdown van came it started fine with no problems, intermittent lol. my bro in laws a mechanic at autohaus (coventry) and told me that when incorrect temps are sent through the ECU, it causes the car to cut out, esp in cold weather!! so yes mate try changing the temperature sender.

Thanks for the advice, been on the phone to mechanic last night and im getting him to order temp sensor and coilpacks as he thought he could smell an eggy smell and my girlfriend noticed it the other day.

Glad your car is back to its proper self

Will let you know how it goes!

Vin... did you change the temp sensor yourself? was it the coolant temp sensor with a green top? I changed mine last week, still does it now and again, im going to check my plugs and coil packs 2mrw morning. Gald yours is sorted mind! :)

ok mine is fixed too.

I changed my spark plugs and cleaned my throttle body with carb cleaner, i just took the whole thing off and did both sides (very easy to remove)

So just to summerise if you having a strange rev/idle issue in order of cost try these :

Coolant temperature sensor/sender (£20)
Spark Plugs (£30)
Coil Pack (£120+)

Clean Throttle body (Free) :p

I just had to do the first two so cost me around £50 and about a hour or so of my time. Phew! :)
