weird rattling when accelarating + Strong emissions

Hi guys,

Need a wee bit of help if yous wouldnt mind.
Anyone in or ever been in the same boat as me regards above.

Got a really strong sulphury egg sorta smell that just reeks from car, she bes ok when just started but when engine heats a wee bit the smell is just stinking lol.

Car recently failed mot on emissions so its pretty serious as cant get using the car properly withou tax and mot fs lol, anyways there is a strong rattling noise when i accelerate through the early gears, sounds like exhaust hitting of underside of car to be honest and when i rev it right up when sitting idle if car hasnt been strted in day or two i get big black mark on ground where exhaust emissions come out, as far as i can tell its not oil just black water.

Does anyone have any idea what it could be? I was thinking it was the cat converter, however dont wanna spend 200 quid on it if its not, could it just be the back box maybe, or worst case scenario, something wrong with engine???

Could an forte engine flush or injector cleaner possibly cure it?

Any help greatly appreciated,

regards,

H.

Lambda Sensor

Just had a read through some posts here and google,

Its looking more and more to be lambda sensor and not the cat converter,

Does anyone know of anyway to check if lamda sensor is faulter or anything that would indicate the cat to be the problem or the lamda sensor?

Sometimes when i put boot down itl hesitate for a second or 2 then accelerate fully.

Any help or advice would be great,

Regards,

H.

Also, can i use a lamda sensor off any ibiza mk2 or does it have to be off a gti and is it ok to fit a 2nd hand lambda?

Sorrry for all the questions, just eager to get back on road :-(...

It sounds to me like your cat has collapsed! that would cause the rattle because parts of the honeycomb detatch from the rest which could also cause hasitation when accerating due to the exhaust gases not flowing properly, cat convertors do smell when they get warm but if its a really bad sulphur smell id just check the battery because they have a tendancy to smell like that when there knackered, you may have a problem with the lambda sensor aswell!

best thing to i think is just take your cat off and see if is all intact before you start buying anything

i may be wrong here but i think the lambda sensor measures and controls the air to fuel ratio and if it is broken it could cause the car to over fuel, the excess fuel goes thought the exhaust system and its the fuel that knackers the cat and leaves excessive black soot in the exhaust which when started the condensation picks up and drips black water out the exhaust!

Not the news I was hoping for,

Pretty much what i had thought out as worst case scenario fs lol, but ah well lives a bitch.
Cheers for the help mate, much appreciated.

Know of anywhere that does cheap cats and lambdas,
lowest ive been able to find is 200 for cat and 60 for lambda sensor.

There is a couple of cat converters on ebay but there still 150 abit cheaper but still fairly expensive, with the lambda sensor i dont think 60 is a bad price to be honest.

but i like i said id take them off and just double check first its an expensive mistake if its a wrong diagnosis

Has anyones ever had a loud knocking when accelerating, seems to be right under front passenger seat.

Feels as if its gonna come through the floor some times, its not the same nois e that comes from the back, its more like a rattle...
