Weird Feeling Brakes...

Right then...

Has new EBC disks and DS2500 pads the other week, and have done about 1000 miles since which has now bedded them in fine...

but....i had the brake fluid changed as well and i have a weird issue..

when i brake now the pedal goes down quite a bit and it doesn't seem to brake unless i put it down loads, then if i lift the pedal and put it down again it seems to bite quite hard and i don't have to put the pedal down as far...

this seems to happen throughout the journey that i would be taking, first time the pedal will go down quite a way and then if i use them again quickly it only goes down a little bit and bites nicely (as they probably should!)

Is it likely they havnt been bled properly? or have some air in?

Ive checked the brake fluid container and its full of fluid etc.....ive also done pumping the brake pedal when engine is off and after about 5 pumps it goes rock hard and then if i start the engine it will drop a tiny bit as its suppose....

anyone think the brakes need another bleed?

I'm not too knowledgeable about brakes but am a hydraulic mechanic
The brake pedal (i would think) would travel till there is enough pressure to clamp the pads onto the discs
If the pedal needs to travel further than usual it sounds like there might be air in there. As air compresses and fluid doesn't this could cause the pedal to travel further than normal to get the pads to clamp onto the discs
Not 100% sure on this but seems logical to someone who knows nothing about the system

yeah i will take the lid off and try a few pumps....

ive defo come to conclusion something wrong..

coming down the m6 last nite...if used in quick succession the brake was nice and tioght and breaking was fantastic....if you leave it a few mins and then use it, the brake pedal drops further and it isn't as responsive...

not very nice feeling actually!!!!

Anyone reconfirm thats fooked?

I'd definitely start by bleeding the system out. If that doesn't fix the problem, you need to be looking for leaks in the system. Hopefully it'll just be a bit of air gotten into the lines when you changed the fluid :)

The garrage should pressure-bleed the whole system, calipers, ABS Pumps, Clutch Servo thingy and see from there.

Another thing to have a look at is the main wheel hub nut, i know that mine can come loose when i'm on track and you get the same brake feeling (soft until it bites, then stays hard for a few mins) - i not carry the f-off socket that fits it in the car :)
