Water temp goes up and down!

Hi all

Sorry for the new tread! But I had the exsact same problem this morning.
Starts the car (outside temp 12 c), ran for about 4-5 min at 2000-2500 rpm. The watertemp comes up to 90, everything is normal. Takes the highway, still cruising at about 2500-3000 rpm.... Everything seems fine... 26 min later (From when I started the car. I make and hard acceleration and the watertemp just falls to 50. And stays there! 2-3, min later it comes up to 90 again. And stayed there for 10 min....stops the car at work...everything is fine...

What the hell is happening? I mounted a new DV (Bailey DV30) yesterday, and the car did the same thing yesterday.

Best regards

I can't imagine the problem is related to your DV - it shouldn't make any difference to cooling.

The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is perhaps your thermostat is sticking?? Only a wild stab in the dark - I'm sure someone else will have a better idea.

Have you got access to VAG-COM? - always helps to see if there are any fault codes being thrown up

Could be a water pump failure. Search for previous threads. It's not going to be that cheap to fix :(. I doubt your new DV has anything to do with it.

WATERPUMP! OMG! That shouldnt cause the temp to drop? Should it?

I have thought of the thermostat. The funny thing is just that i came the same day I changed the DV. But I doubt myself that it should cause this.

There are still dealer warranty on the car!

Not sure about the temperature drop as I misread the symptoms
Howerver if that's not the cause I can only think of faulty thermostat.
If you still have a warranty then make use of it and get it sorted for free :)

Yeah, it should be covered, the thing is I just have to argue with the dealer everytime I want a problem fixed! Arrgh! They still have to fix my paintword as well!

need some suggestion, driving down the motorway crusing at 70mph on 6 gear and the temp drops down 1 bar below 90. so put my foot down on full boost, the temp moves then stays at 90. abit confused. dont think its the water pump as if its failing it should pass the 90 mark.

is this a temp sensor or thermo stat. parked up looked at the coolant, still the same and couldnt see the coolant circulating. i know its cold out side could it be over cooling?
